I agree.
I feel like it's the end of the season already and I'm frustrated. - mayorofangrytown
let's be real, the majority of all posting here fall into two types:
1. those that are frustrated but happy we are playing playoff hockey
2. those who are stoked b/c the flyers are playing with house money and the future looks bright.
i 100% agree there are players this team needs to win that are not in the system and can't be drafted at 14 and 18 or whatever the hell they draft at. Hexy's legacy is going to be made signing the young guns and getting the talent from elsewhere to help those kids win hockey championships. |

Completely agree here. I legit think the Flyers have an awesome core with Giroux, Couts, Voracek, Patrick, Ghost and Provorov. I feel like it's always in goal and on the backend the (under Ghost/Prov) where the Flyers tend to trail off. I'm honestly not familiar with who all is in their system but they have a god damn good start with those guys if you ask me.
UFA class kinda sucks this year, you've got Mike Green, John Carlson, and then a bunch of last pair guys IMO. Ian Cole, HAmhuis, John Moore, no one that's really gonna turn the needle, but, I use this example because I'm a Pens fan, if they could find a Dumoulin type player for one of Ghost/Provorov, it would allow them to split those 2 up on separate pairings which would, IMO, make a stronger balanced D group. |

I'm not even talking about the trade deadline. He's had that plus 4 or 5 off seasons and what has he added? Raffl?
I don't hate on Hexy but c'mon. It's like all of their eggs are in the draft basket and the rest of the league is operating around them. - mayorofangrytown
but he has had ZERO CAP space, he had to clear out the CAP, then he really didnt have any pieces to trade, this will be the first season he will. I do believe he needs to pull the trigger for this season. He has enough pieces now to add what they need and hope for a few more rookies to step up and be a contender.

Cap is supposed to be what, 80-82m? That gives them close to 15m right? |

last night in the Sharks/Ducks game the Ducks were gettting chippy despite only being down 3-0
How come no one on the Flyers got chippy or started fights in our 7-0 loss - 2Real
Probably because they've taken on the personality of their coach |

Are you sure you don't hate on Hexy? You have to put in context the mess he took over. He's done a great job of putting this team on the right track to become successful for years. Sure he's had some bad signings, every GM does. You also have to look at what players were available at the time. He's stuck by his guns that he's not going to make big splash trades just to get better now. They tried that, it didn't work and finally things are looking up. 3rd in the division with the amount of youth we have playing is pretty good.

Couldn't agree more! You speak the truth. I said the exact same thing about Hexy outside the draft and was given the most recent trade of Brayden Schenn for 2 1st round picks and Lehtera as an example of his prowess in making trades. |

Yeah, like I said I don't think the UFA class for defensemen is too strong, but fighting Ghost or Provorov a complimentary player ala Dumoulin would allow them to spread those 2 onto 2 lines. I feel like their forwards are pretty solidly set, give or take a few bottom 6 guys. Stronger D/Stronger goalie IMO would make the Flyers legit. Especially if Giroux continues his Renaissance. |

In my eyes they re actually a little ahead of schedule. Getting patrick was a steal/luck that no one saw. That was always the problem moving forward. Finding a let top/2nd line center. Next year you start with Couturier and Patrick down the middle. Better then anything I could have imagined starting the 18-19 season.
It's much easy to look for a 3rd line center then find those top 6 centers. |

Also you can't get chippy if no one wants to engage. At 5-0 why would any Pen want to engage.

What about shifting Giroux back to center? Having a 1-2-3 punch of Giroux, Couts, Patrick? |

I like Giroux on the wing. I think it saves him a little wear and tear defensively and allows him to be a little fee offensively.

Would help out trying to stop Malkin line. Emphasis trying.
It's hard generating offense against them. I feel like G and Couturier were just constantly trying to put out fires Wednesday and they just ended up getting burned. |

Yeah I can definitely understand that, especially when you see the season him and Couts had together. I feel like the UFA classes are getting worse and worse every year. At C.. you've really got.. Tavares.. then Statsny. Everyone else I would consider 3Cs. How many teams have legit C depth where they have a 3C that can be 2C... and then the flexibility to trade them too. That was really my only thinking. Could Patrick make the quick jump to 2C next year? |

Plenty of teams in the league have zero cap space but they find a way to get it done.
You think the Pens are teaming with cap space? The Blackhawks and Kings of the past half decade?
He had the cap space to sign Weisse. That was certainly money well spent and that's not Monday morning quarterbacking it as most of the people on this thread were hollowing at the waste of money the day he was signed. |
