While this is true, this Sabres team is a different breed in that regard.

This team is atrocious. At everything.

0 intensity. 0 excitement. 0 desperation.

I just can't bring myself to blame yet another head coach, or Johan Larsson for another last place finish.

There are problems

Sure
But winning cure a lot of that
We have a lot of holes
The talent we are bringing in is gonna help

U mean the 4th liners that Championship teams didn’t want anymore are who we are taking our leadership cues from?

Come on man
What room doesn’t suck when you’re losing this much
It’s gonna take a toll on anyone

What does Jack say after games that’s so inspiring that it leads us to victory?

What could someone else come in and say to make our guys better passers?
Or shooters?
Or Lehner & Johnson make some saves?

With more talent, comes more winning
With more winning, comes better attitudes

Talent is the big issue here
And we’ve got some good young talent joint the roster in all areas

- jdfitz77

I knew this was coming.

Those 4th liners were certainty good enough to play important roles on championship teams, yet here you are, dismissing them as nobodies.

Makes sense.

Sure, but I think the "losing takes a toll" excuse doesn't cut it for guys who are supposed to be vet leaders.

O'Reilly was absolutely invisible to start this year, even he says so. That's before we were eliminated, or he was dead tired from D zone draws.

Reinhart was absolutely invisible for 40 games.

That's not a surrounding talent issue.

The criticism of O'Reilly's comments is sad. So for once an athlete shows that he is a human rather than just regurgitating cliches and somehow he is weak? The guy essentially feels like us in that it got to him. How could it not?

Don't get me wrong - I think if the right deal comes along then he is certainly expendable. I gained a lot of respect for him today.

The problem for many fans was, and is, it only took him 82 games and 57 losses to "be human".

Are there really people who want to bring this team back largely intact (excluding some UFA's and Lehner)? The thought blows my mind.

It’s truly unreal to me.

Johan Larsson and Girgensons leaving is going to catapult this team

This makes absolutely no sense. I mean, what could he possibly say today that would make anyone happy? If he says what everyone else says they are spitting out cliches. If he says he is mad he gets laughed at. He does something out of the ordinary and people kill him for it.

Everyone making big money on this team is good. we are bad because the guys who play 10-15 minutes a night are bad.

That's what's essentially being said. We need big changes without making big changes. Im reminded of one of my favourite how i met your mother quotes.

"Barney, I don't get it.
You don't do a damn thing in any of these clips."

"Exactly.
Because that's who corporate American wants-- people who seem like bold risk takers, but never actually do anything."

Apparently Girgs has significant trade value and our second tier prospects are key pieces to a big improvement.

Plenty of reason to be excited for Guhle, Mittelstadt, and this year's pick. The later two are really going to need another year before you can expect too much.

I'll be shocked if there isn't at least one significant trade this summer.

I was as big of fan as Girgs as anyone but he is completely useless right now. What makes you think he has any value?

Seriously though.

"Ryan O'Reilly is over rated"

"Well, he's on the worst team ever assembled, except for Eichel, he's great, and Ristolainen is really good, and Reinhart is really good, and Lehner actually isn't bad, and Scandella is under rated, and Bogo isn't really bad when he's healthy, and Kane was the best 30 goal scorer we've ever had when he was here...."

I forgot O'Reilly took all his shifts with Beaulieu and Larsson

I don't. Last night, some posted that he was worth a 2nd and a 5th. I'm still in disbelief.

Yes.

Josefson, Nolan, Larsson, Girgs, Falk, Redmond and Moulson would all be or remain gone. They are not NHL players, maybe 4th line for Larry.

I would bring up Nylander, Baptiste, Mittelstadt, Guhle and Ullmark. I would try to sign Carlsson. Other than that I wouldn't do much. Lehner can go, but I'd resign someone other than CJ. Ullmark and _____ would be the answer.

Are there really people who want to blow this roster up again? THAT blows my mind.

And around and around we go.

Edit: Okposo and Bogo are untradeable. They'd be on the list if there was a cheaper option, but doubt it.

Pretty convenient how u dismiss the OBVIOUS
Those championship teams found these guys expendable...
so just how good were they at these roles?

And u never answered my questions

Who is the mythical leader that’s gonna come in & make us better passers & shooters?
Who’s epic “holding guys responsible” speech is gonna help Lehner & Johnson make more saves?

I have faith that JB has a firm grasp of things and has pitched the Pegulas on a 2-year GMTM cleanse. His moves so far have been good to me, but now it's time to take the next step towards his long term vision for the team.

And keeping only Jack, Casey & Guhle...
and bringing in 19 new players is ridiculous and unrealistic to epic proportions

I don't think we get a sniff of more than a 4th as he's been bad for several years now. We gave up a third last year for Beliue because he was at a premium position and only had 2/3 of a year of stink on him.

I admire your optimism. I just don't think JB's long term plan is keeping GMTM's core. Remember, GMTM was building a new version of the Kings. JB + Phil want a fast, up tempo team. We have 1 top 6 forward right now capable of playing that. There's a big difference between 1 significant trade towards that vision and blowing things up. They need to improve next year, but this group isn't close to the end product.

It isn't round and round. The problem is that the last guy tried to take a shortcut and it backfired. The worst thing we can do is try to resurrect any questionable players just because we are tired of waiting.

If we need 5 new top6 players, we are going to be rebuilding for another 5 years at least. If that's the long term plan, sell it off and build a fast team, he's not the GM I thought he was.

Part of being a GM is instituting a vision, but it's also working with the protoplasm that you're given. As far as the defense goes, I'd be happy to see some changes and improvements in the offseason. However, if Botts idea of a good team means getting 5 top6 forwards...we're doomed. Like literally, doomed.
