They can wave him and send him to the minors next year if needed. They have plenty of contract spots.

Sorry. The Weise thing gets old. I know he has been bad and the contract sucks but it's not like they can't waive him and get a little cap savings if needed.

Bill or others,
How important do you see the line match ups in this series?
In the past we saw G vs Crosby and Couts vs Malkin.
What will the Flyers try to do?
I think I’d like G and Couts to play against Crosby and Patrick and Voracek vs Malkin.

- Marc D

Pens have home ice and last change for 4 games. Look for them to keep Crosby away from Coots. Malkin will probably be up against Coots most of the time unless Hak short shifts some lines to get Coots/Crosby match up. Problem is the Pens depth. Brassard (coming off injury) is a very good 3rd line center. We have our work cut out for us. In my opinion.

It's also not really true. Flyers are getting pretty close to the contract limit. They will be in the high 40s before free agency starts.

I doubt they hesitate to buy him out if they need a contract spot. Should be a non-issue either way

Weal hasn't done anything against the Pigeons this year. Glad he's not playing.

Speaking of 3rd line center I was kind of looking to next year. If the Flyers don't see someone ready for that role, I was wondering about a guy like Spezza. Dallas I believe needs some cap room and i think he could be available. He has one year at 7.5 million but i am sure they would retain money to move him. He had a down year this year. It was just a thought I had when i was looking at the Flyers and the future.
- J35Bacher

in all seriousness though...I would take Spezza for a year. I wasn't kidding about his laugh though

It was just a thought in case guys like Vorobyev and Vecchione aren't ready yet. Especially if you cold get him at something like 4 million compared to 7.5. Almost like a Filppula, filler on a one year deal.

Can't remember but did Lindblom or Sanheim play in any of the Pittsburgh games? Lindblom might have. Too lazy to look right now. But those are two changes that help the Flyers. They give the Flyers a little more skill and Lindblom has shown to be a solid two way player.

I really like there chances. Not just homer talk.

- J35Bacher

Lindblom to me has the perfect kind of game for playoff hockey. I hope the puck starts going in for him.

I also feel like this series is perfect for Konecny. I know his game has risk but sometimes that is exactly what is needed in a series like this.

The thing that is irritating is that with all these guys in the pipeline and contract slots being at a premium, Hextall went out and signed Weise to a 4 year deal. I mean seriously, who were the Flyers competing against for Weise's services that they had to offer FOUR FREAKING YEARS to him just to get him to come here? I wouldnt have minded Weise being on the roster if his contract were up this season and we could just wave goodbye to a guy who underperformed. But noooooooooooooooo...
- Doc_Sarcasm

It's obviously a deal that hasn't worked out but I don't see it reaching the level of irritating. It's not going to matter much in the big picture.

I'm highly irritated with the level of effort, heart, and play of Weise but the contract is certainly not a good one but not going to hurt the team with any high level of significance.

So yeah.. an 88,000 year old middle finger was found.

I find this both amusing and reassuring at the same time.

Pretty much. It’s not like he’s taking ice time away from anyone nor preventing us from signing one of our own players.

Hasn't the amount your allowed to bury in the minors gone up each year? So maybe you bury him in Lehigh next year like Read.

They just moved Marody for a 3rd round pick because they didn't see a future for him here.

they have RFA's in:
Stolarz
Hagg
Mrazek
Leier
Lyon
Morin
Wilcox
Martel
Goulbourne

UFA's:
Muse
Tokarski
McDonald
O'Neill
Manning
Oduya
Read
Filppula

So there will be guys not getting contracts next year. I could see some RFA's not getting QO with the prospects that could be in Lehigh next year.

I think the Flyers are fine with contracts.

Marody might not of wanted to sign with the flyers...there is already a lot of young forwards in the pipeline and since he signed his deal with EDM he obviously wanted to come out now. Maybe there was a disagreement....Kid has some decent upside, but so do a lot of Flyer prospects. And yes Weise has been a disappointment...Hext whiffed on that one,

The Flyers can always make room for a contract if need be. I actually see only 4 or 5 of the guys on both lists combined that I think might have a chance at a future with the big club

Unfortunately, the 1st round of the playoffs, ticky tacky calls are still made. I feel like not until the 2nd round do the referees let em play. Pittsburgh will draw penalty after penalty and blow out the poor Flyers.

FWIW flyers are significantly better at drawing penalties based on the stats from this season

Flyers are +40 and Penguins are -6
