Great article by simmer. Oree is from my neck of the woods and there's an arena named after him.

I'd much rather have a younger player with upside getting 4th line minutes than Lehtera. Bardreau, Vecchione, etc. And he's not serviceable. His production at ES and on the PP was laughably bad, and he was the worst PKer on the team apart from Leier who got banished to the pressbox for struggling shorthanded. But the vet got rewarded for his poor performances and even took Laghton's spot in the PK rotation for the second half of the season. Hakstol can't be trusted to use mediocre or worse veterans appropriately, so Hextall needs to make them disappear.

$5m for a slower, lower scoring version of Chris VandeVelde is horrible value.

We all know why Lehtera was acquired so lets not forget that. I also take issue with calling him the worst Pker on the team. I don't agree with the basis of how you've come to that conclusion. NHL teams don't use stats the way you;re using them.
Lastly and most importantly, I also disagree with your statement that Hakstol can't be trusted to use veterans properly. He has absolutely used the appropriately. If you want younger players in those spots then they have to earn it and win the job. Leier failed to do so.

Guess who has the best odds though! Even then it is only 16%. Odds are good for round one against the Flyers. The Penguins have more depth even without Derick Brassard in the lineup. Average goaltending should be enough to get them through.
