Almost certain.

Only thing holding him back is weight/strength, skill and speed wise, he'd already be one of the best offensive players on this roster.

I like Hughes skill/skating combo a lot, and he's a smart player. 5'10" still scares me for a dman though lol.
- Nucker101

Well he is Krugs size and more skilled. He should be fine. Pair him with a big stay at home dman

Boqvist by all indications is certainly the better shooter though.

Keep in mind, he's also almost a full year younger then Hughes as well.

Boqvist and Merkley I believe, are the youngest projected 1st rounders this year.

I can see Benning preferring Boqvist because of his shot, but between the two I like Hughes better.

Hughes is probably the best pure skater around, but I'd take Boqvist all day every day.

Better defensively, can rip the puck and remains one of the better skaters of the draft as well. The fact that he's already 'considered' on par with Hughes skill level while being 11 months younger is encouraging.

I keep seeing Quinn Hughes and Boqvist being ahead of makar (if they were in last years draft class). I don't know much about either player, but is this a stretch?

I wouldn't think so. I don't think Makar would have even be ahead of Bouchard or Dobson.

Hughes put up more points this season in the NCAA and is a full year younger then Makar.

True

I consider you to be this site's Benning mind reader so whoever you think he likes is what I'm going with as well.

I think Hughes is the best playmaking dman outside of Dahlin in this draft. Best puck handler as well.

If you look at the D size on NHL.com and split the height at 6'.

There are a no, what would be considered #1 d men under 6' in the NHL.

There are some great scoring D (Krug, Ghost, Barrie, Etc) just no one that would be considered a #1 D on most teams. Barrie is actually the only one who plays the most.

I don't know much about Wahlstrom but I keep seeing him climb in the ratings and from where we are drafting I think it is possible. Everything I have read on him is very positive . I almost think he is under the radar

I do believe I'd have to agree with that....but!

Passing is for pussies! I want some goddam goals from the back-end!

If we got some more picks in the first 3 I would be ok with Wahlstrom and than a focus on D for the rest of the first 3 rounds. I just think that Wahlstrom really is not a better choice than Dobson or Boqvist and they are a bigger need than Wahlstrom is.

I don't think I will be disappointed with any of the top 9 players that are listed on the scouting reports

The USNDP has done well for awhile now.
Press on them usually says not much but its a mistake to not pick them. I like him but we need D still hence a trade is needed for another 1st hopefully. Wahlstrom as BPA then makes more sense vs picking need.

I hear ya, but this team doesn't exactly have great playmaking on the back end or up front either.
