lol me too. I was on my honeymoon in Maui with a 6 hour time difference. I kept leaving the beach to go back to the "bathroom" for long periods of time. She figured it out eventually.
I thought I was married in 2008. I should probably figure that out before my anniversary. - all-pgh
hahaha love that dedication.
EDIT: that was honest in regards to the trying to watch Pens game on honeymoon, not sarcasm in regards to your marriage and not knowing when you were married.
Radko Gudas isn’t a dirty player really. He just hits hard and the refs call the sounds the boards make these days. He has some border line hits but it’s more a result of the way he plays. I really don’t think his intent is to be dirty like Marchand. As long as the pens play with a lead they should be fine. It’s when they are trailing and the flyers start to lay it on with the other stuff when poop hits the fan.
I just think the combo of depth + cup winning goalie and coach might be too much for a young team like the FLyers to overcome as much as that sucks being a Flyers fan..
Ill also say if Hunwick/Ruhwedel balance out Provorov and Ghost the flyers are in a world of hurt..
Ghost was 3 in the league in scoring from defensemen and Provorov tied for first in the league for goals by a dman. - opeth_pa
I was just digging through some of the boxscore numbers and I found some surprising info: (vs. PITs splits)
Ghostisbehere: 4games, 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 points, -6 (2 of his 3 pts were on pp)
Provorov: 4 games, 0 goal, 1 assist, 1 point, -4
I can't recall ever noticing them struggle at EVS vs pittsburgh while watching the game. Anyone want to dig into underlying to verify this stuff? +/- is a pretty suspect stat

Dom and Jesse from the Athletic did two really good in depth previews if you have a subscription

EDIT: They both have brutal PKs...its crazy to me that the Pens were 29th/30th in PK up until around December I believe, then they sky rocketed to 3rd/4th by February and now almost last again...
EDIT: 26th in the league for shooting %...that crazy. If that was a bit higher they might of won the division...

Gudas had his execution-style head chop, and I wanted him thrown out of the league. He got 10 games, I wanted at least 25. But aside from that, it's usually just hard, clean hits that get called because he hits too hard.

As long as Marchands allowed to skate freely the bar is set a lot lower than Gudas.

I really think for entertainment purposes the east matchups are great.
Pens/Flyers: major rivalry
Leafs/Bruins: original 6 major rivalry and the Leafs almost bounced them in their second last playoff appearance which was their first appearance in 10 years....up 4-1 with half a period left in game 7...
Bolts/Devils: Two very fast high octane teams
Caps/Jackets: Two very close teams IMO. Add to this you have the Caps with the pressure to get past 2nd round. I realize people are saying they dont have quite the same pressure this year, from a roster stand point I guess, but come on, they have pressure to make it further. Ovi is getting older too. Then you have the Jackets who've never won a playoff series at all. Should be a dandy.

The chart if anything reinforces 2 things
1) sh!tty shooting (I'm curious how sh!tty it would have been had it been pre-Jan lol)
2) sh!tty goaltending
This should be a great matchup. As long as Pens stay outta the box and Murray is consistent (big if), I like our chances at evs

I've never been a fan of the playoff format. Yes, there have been the PIT-WS and new rivalries like PIT-CLB, but I'd rather they keep divisions and re-seed matchups from 1-8 and again each round (they can keep it intra-conference). This marchness madness format has the only benefit of making the path to the finals crystal clear.

I just liked the old format. Conference based. It gives the regular season more meaning IMO. If TO goes out in the first round, I could see the NHL suddenly having a problem with the seeding.
