I try not to say stuff like that,
and “core”
Bc ppl have such different definitions

The argument to trade ROR isn’t his salary (bc we will have to overpay any good players), and it’s not his production...

It’s whether or not O’Reilly will still be a good player when he’s 30-35 & we are “ready to compete”

If the answer is “no”
Then ok...
makes sense to explore a trade

Just have to get the right return
Not a sh!tty one like we got for Kane

- jdfitz77

I think we will be ready to compete next october.
This was a successful tank.
We have some good young players
The future is bright.

There are probably 20-25 nhl superstars
Then 40-60 more stars

Ror is a star.

Not useless, but if things go as planned and Mittelstadt, Nylander, Smith and whoever else actually pan out, O’Reilly might need to go to pay those guys who are 6-7-8 years younger.

I don’t think Ryan O’Reilly the #2 Center kills your team.

I think Ryan O’Reilly being your 2nd best player means your destined for mediocrity at best.

They need to do better in the core department.

- sbroads24

Again, totally fair
BUT
That has more to do with what other talent we can get here than with O’Reilly

Unless we can trade ROR for someone who will be better
Is that possible? Tough to say
It’s just as likely a prospect we trade him for won’t ever end up as good as ROR

Can’t really think of young defensemen that Nj or NyR would/could part with off the top of my head

Zadorov, Compher, Armia, Lemieux, Myers, McNabb

2 first rd picks
4 second rd picks
3 3rd rd picks

that's a good start

- homiedclown

Konecny has 24 goals
Roslovic would be on pace for about 15 playing 4th line minutes
Beauvillier has 20 goals
Boeser is a star
Carlsson is on track to be a top 4 D man
Merkely is over a PPG in the AHL
Chances are we at least pick one really good player out of the two picks

if we land dahlin

dahlin, scandella, mccabe, guhle

rank them

then figure out who gets traded

- homiedclown

Scandella in that scenario. And I don’t loathe him like 365.

But Dahlin, Guhle and McCabe is your future left side

That’s easy
Going by their ceiling & potential role going forward...
u move either Scandella or McCabe

Bc of age,
I’d say move Scandella unless McCabe gets u a more significant return

this lottery is so huge for this team moving forward

Svechnikov is RW with skunk, okposo probable fixtures in the top 9

Zadina is our best winger overnight

Dahlin makes our D almost complete

if it's pick 4, it's either Tkachuk, or a RD or a LD

If our young player play to their potential...
we could make a jump like the Leafs 2 years ago, or Jersey this year

Still holes to fill before we can compete for the Cup though

Agreed. I feel like Sabres are gonna win one of the drawings too. Dahlin or Z.

I can't predict the future. All i know is right now he's a bad value contract. If you can get value (be it picks, prospects or roster players) you do it.
- Sabresfan-365

What a cop out

I’m asking what YOU think
Not to predict what will happen

If the return is O’Regan & a conditional pick,
Then I’d puke
And you should too

Can we all just agree if we’re trading Ryan O’Reilly it actually might help us become a cup contender with the assets we would get for him

If general managers are willing to Give us the same value we traded for him why not do it

If you can move bogo and okposo goes on LTIR, there is a long term spot for ROR on this roster

Imagine one of those wingers are Laine or Kucherov legit playing with Eichel. Sabres will be in business.

I think we are close to competing next year. 88 -92 points
Why trade a 26 year old guy in ror? Still in his prime and hungry.

If were 4 years out , why keep him?
Then hes 30 and skating like 50 year olds

Erroneous. The Sabres were 3 points better than the Jets. Jets got lucky.
