Probably pretty good. At least Nelson is a regular RFA.

Because he's over 26, and he's played under 100 games, he's only eligible to play for a team in the Central or Mountain time zones, and the team must be in an irregularly shaped state or province

I guess my argument is that he's the second-best Dman on the team, probably. I just don't see a reason to trade him, unless you're getting a better dman back, which seems unlikely. So why trade him for a 2nd or something? The player, if he ever makes it, will be years away.
- jcragcrumple

The argument was posed on the assumption we get Dahlin. If we don’t get Dahlin then obviously it’s a completely different situation. But it’s safe to say in a perfect world he’s on our third pairing, Minnesota seemed to agree. Upgrades are needed on the d corps wether scandella is here or not. McCabe can fill a top 4 role and move down a pairing when Guhle is able to play top 4 minutes. Not worth paying Scandella 4M to play on the third pair with us being cap strapped. He would also garner a better return than McCabe. That was my reasoning behind moving him.

They have been really good over the last couple of months. Could be a team that makes some noise next year with the right tweaks in the offseason.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. This summer we have $15 mil in cap space (that include's Eichel's raise, Mittelstadt). Sign Reinhart, find a goalie, still have room to play.

Next summer is really nice, they have $33m in space currently

he's the slowest guy on that future group, there's no sense having him around if you're trying for speed both in terms of passing and skating.

And in that lineup there's enough offensive fire power to go around that you'd be better off filling that role with a guy who is good defensively.

Yeah, I think people pile on him a bit. I thought he played a solid game other than getting tracked down and stripped by Zac Smith. Active stick, had some good plays along the boards and didn't make any egregious errors. Probably was some salt in that.
- RhinoFan

I think the play where he got caught and man handled by smith was the turning point for Nylander's game.

To me it was kind of a well I messed up already, nothing to lose now.

He looked much more comfortable after that play.

Here is what I would like to see forward wise next season.

ROR and Girgensons/Larson traded to Montreal for Galchenyuk
Pommer bought out
Vanek signed to a reasonable 1 year deal
Wingers can be moved up and down if needed

We’d have to see how the lottery plays out. 50% chance of picking 4th, 50% or picking too 3. If we do land Dahlin though we would have quite a few LHD. If you keep a scandella you move McCabe, or he gets the Gorges treatment. I’m assuming one of those two gets moved in that scenario. If we pick one of the wingers or D men at 2, 3, or 4 then you keep both or still move one of them to upgrade the D Corps.

Is Galchenyuk the type of player that will be able to do anything in Buffalo?

He seems like the type to struggle in tough situations
