Why do some fans peg Nylander in the Sabres starting lineup next year? I'm sure it's based on being a high #1 draft pick and being the younger bro of Alex. Go to some Amerks games... He is not a standout...When I see him play I don't say to myself that kids going to be an NHL star someday....I hope I'm wrong but now I see a third liner at best maybe in a couple of years....

Did you watch last game? Nylander was one of our better wingers. He played better than Mittelstadt...

Mostly because of the lack of LW depth in the organization.

Desharnais could be a cheap option that would bring some versatility as to C/LW throughout the lineup. Very low cost a la Pouliot
- jcragcrumple

That would be a Botterill-esque signing too. Probably can do a year contract and flip at the deadline if he plays well and we're outside looking in again.

Doubt many are on board, but I wouldn't mind Vanek back for a season either.

The Sabres believe a healthy Zach Bogosian and Jake McCabe will help Brendan Guhle and Casey Nelson, because they’ll be properly slotted.

If bogosian is on this roster next year I swear to Jesus you're all toast

Dont know if anyone mentioned but Frolunda says 7 of its players will not be returning next year, one of them olofsson.

Sounds like he'll come over, not that there was much doubt.

I noticed niether of them to be honest. Except Mittelstadt skating over a puck, and Nylander shooting a puck up to the 300’s, two feet from the net

we're missing it either way. there's no combination of moves that makes this team playoff bound next year

Log jam at D. Why not trade Brodin, Spurgeon, Dumba then ? Do I need to spell it out for you ? He’s a meh hockey player. He doesn’t hurt us in the back end, nor is he a top 4 d-man on a good team. McCabe can do the same thing. Scandella has more trade value on the open market. So bye bye Scandella
- Pegullaville

I guess my argument is that he's the second-best Dman on the team, probably. I just don't see a reason to trade him, unless you're getting a better dman back, which seems unlikely. So why trade him for a 2nd or something? The player, if he ever makes it, will be years away.

I really hope people weren't thinking we were going to make the playoffs next year ..

It's going to be another frustrating year of suffering

I thought Nylander was pretty good in the third. Getting in the dirty areas, some good passes.

For the whole game, neither was really good.

Well, you're definitely not making it by forcing 2nd line minutes down Nylander's and Mittlestadt's throats.

Because the NHL and the AHL are two different leagues in how the game is played. A high-skilled but somewhat soft player like NYlander might not be able to dominate in that league, but very well could rapidly progress in the NHL. Right now we're looking for a big step out of Nylander, but having a center like Porter or Cornel is probably on conducive to that. We should bring him up, put him with Jack for at least 10-15 games and see what happens. If he still stinks and needs to go back to a lesser league, so be it, but at least we'll know where we are at with him.

That doesn't necessarily have to be the 2nd line in terms of minutes, just in terms of skill set.

Could roll three lines next year, see a bump in offensive numbers

Yeah, I think people pile on him a bit. I thought he played a solid game other than getting tracked down and stripped by Zac Smith. Active stick, had some good plays along the boards and didn't make any egregious errors. Probably was some salt in that.

Are you insinuating that there are better options?

I think Mitts needs time personally, but assuming both are in the lineup in some capacity, you put them on 3rd and 4th lines to let Girgs and Pommer play up?
