That wasn't a bad pick though. Just a very unfortunate death

Hey , just a numbers guy... 0 NHL games played.

EDIT: Then they got the 17th overall pick in the 2009 draft as compensation and drafted Ethan Werek... also 0 NHL Games Played lol

I'm not saying you're crazy for thinking that, but that's a practice I very much disagree with. BPA all day erryday.

Only time I think anyone should ever draft for need is if there are two or three players that they think are absolutely identical in terms of value. If that's the case, then you can take the one that fills your needs the most. But most times the needs of a team change big-time from the day they draft a kid to the day he suits up for his first NHL game.

- eichiefs9

But I think those three are way above the rest. The others are all kind of interchangeable. So if it was me I would take who I need.

I don't think that the players are just interchangeable. There are busts in every draft. There are players that underperform their draft positions, and there are players that over perform their draft positions. That is why scouts are still important, because while we may think that Boqvist, Bouchard and Hughes, for instance, are interchangeable, the reality is that they are highly unlikely to have interchangeable careers. You don't want to pick the guy that just turns out to be blah because of some type of teem need. You want to pick the guy that you are convinced is going to be better.

Think you misunderstood me. In terms of talent, pretty much everyone is saying other than the top three there isn't much difference. Of course you will have your busts and late 2nd and 3rd rounders who turn into great players, but If you are picking say 8th. and your team needs a right handed d man and you have him ranked at 9th, but you pick a forward instead because he is listed at 8th thats just dumb

I'm not saying if you need a D man and the next best one is ranked say 15th and you pick that player with the 8th pick.

Speaking of which... holy Drop off in his stats now that the season is over 62games - 11points.

Talk about guys the Rangers lost from last year until now and how they have done til now:

Linberg
Grabner
Nash
McDonaugh

Crazy - Holden, Girardi and Stepan are the ones whose stats haven't dropped off after they left

I hear ya.

Going back to the McIlrath draft, I really think they tried to make a need pick with McIlrath. They thought they had a young offensive defender in Del Zotto, so they wanted a different type of defender, therefore, leaving a sliding Fowler on the board. Now Fowler has played over 550 games in the NHL, and has been a very solid NHL defender. And McIlrath? Well, we know the story there.

Absolutely that was a huge reach. And those are awful. I was thinking more of like taking a guy that might only be two or three spots away as long as the talent drop off isn't severe.

Think that pick was also because the team watched Gaborik get the bajesus punched out of him by Carcillo.

I do agree with you and chiefs though in most cases you want the best player.

Only one that ever gets me is the Bobby Spaghetti over Grioux. Even Giroux said he thought he was going to the Rangers

1 point does nothing though

Hopefully it its tied late in the 3rd, Rangers just score on themselves

NYR generation gap: Lundqvist wants to eliminate the Flyers, Chytil and Andersson want the 7th pick or better. They'll be shooting at Hank and he'll be trying to stand on his head.

I didn't realize that he was taken before Giroux. What a (frank)ing blunder.
