Tavares doesn't have to come to Toronto to win or make more money. There are other contenders who could give him the same or more money (plus a better tax rate).
And he would leave "the chance to win in Toronto" on the table for the simple fact that if he doesn't win in Toronto (because believe it or not, it's not a guarantee), it'd be considered a failure and all the pressure, attention and bullpoop that comes with that.
More money, more privacy, same or better chance to win. - Unholy_Goalie
name 2 more places where Tavares can win 3 SC during next 7 years - cities that are not poopholes |

First of all, are you suggesting the Leafs win 3 Cups in the next 7 years? Because that's adorable.
Second of all, Nashville, Vegas, Colorado, San Jose, Columbus, Winnipeg even Edmonton could make it work. A few other teams that could trade a player or two to create the space. |

Are you referring to me? I'm no alt, I just decided to create an account after lurking for so long. |

receptive reading is tough for you - i should have known.
'can win' is different than 'will win'. (translation = a good chance of winning 3 cups).
and edmonton and wpg are poophole cities |

Yet Tavares isn't originally from any of those places. You can't tell me that as a boy he never dreamed about winning a cup with the Leafs - he now has that chance. Will he take it? |

I don’t think he signs back in NY so I’d say there’s a pretty decent chance he signs in Toronto. I wouldn’t be surprised.
They’ll be a lot teams making pushes though, so I guess we’ll see |

So the Leafs have a "good" chance of winning 3 Cups in 7 years? Still adorable.
Good thing I listed more than just Edmonton and Winnipeg. |

If they were to sign Tavares is it really that hard to believe they’d be a favorite for the cup almost every year? Or at least one of the favorites. |

I bet when he was a kid he also dreamed of spending all his money on Lego too. But people grow up and those "dreams" aren't nearly as important as doing something simple like going to the store without being swarmed by people or walking away from a dangerous sport with as much money as possible.
Tavares could sign a 7 year deal, make 80+ million dollars, lose less money on taxes, be bothered by nobody in Nashville (for example), still win a Cup and still be 36 years old and sign with the Leafs to "fulfill the dream". He doesn't have to do it now. |

How many teams in history have won 3 cups in 7 years? They'd still have no D and no guarantee that they win Cups that frequently. |

I’m not saying they’d win 3, but I wouldn’t put it at zero percent either.
I could see Pittsburgh winning again in the next 5 years and their D is pretty poopty. |

60 million or 80 million - doesn't really make much of a difference at some point.
and we're not even talking endorsement money |

Don't apologize for having a wrong opinion when "Uggy the female genitalia" is around....
You're just stuck listening to him tell us we're all wrong, like the rest of us.
BTW... I'd rather call someone a female genitalia than being one or listening to one. |

I'll bet that Taveres was always a jock, and lego wasn't high on his priority list.
Boyhood dreams tend to stick with you throughout your life, at least I know that mine have even though I know I will never fulfil them. He now has the chance to make his come true, and that has to be compelling.
Why do you keep with that tax thing? It isn't true. |

I should have put an "/s" tag on that one... I've been around long enough in the background to hear UG say pretty much everything. If you want him to change his opinion then just wait a few days and he probably will. |

Winning one is hard enough as it is, expecting a good chance at 3 is a ridiculous expectation.
Crosby and Malkin are a combo that break the rules. |
