I see every fan base talking about signing Tavares

I saw every fanbase talking about Stammer 2 years ago too. P Kane was going to sign in Buffalo.

The sheer size of the Leafs fanbase means more people talking about signing a player.

Not many of us can argue a point without getting personal at one point, I respect UG for that

But attacking someone personally is the best way to prove a point.

He has a problem where he has to argue for the sake of arguing

I think we all get a kick out of him

I agree with some of what he says. But the stuff I don't, I really don't. I think he says some things most Leafs fans don't want to hear. It blows up the Fantasy Land version of the Leafs. They know he's right but since it's HIM saying it, then it must be wrong.

But when he's clearly wrong, he beats it to death. It's like he'd rather fall on his own sword than admit he's wrong about anything. The Don Cherry effect.

The hockey knowledge is there. I think he likes to push buttons and pop other Leafs fans balloons. He is entertaining. To a point. Then you have to switch the channel. UG is the Leafs fan version of Jerry Springer. UG! UG! UG! ☺

Well obviously. I mean, this is the center of the hockey universe. How could he not sign with the Leafs?

Inferiority complex. Has to “prove” he’s smarter than everyone else so he argues. All the time. Even against himself from an hour before. Just as long as “he wins.”

I think this is more than a strong possibility. Winning a cup with Toronto would turn him into a hockey god and will pay dividends long after his on ice career is over.

By wins, you mean, keeps arguing until the other person gets tired and goes to bed, right?

You know that's a false, Gull.

I don't know if he'll come to Toronto or not. I'm not even sure how they'd work the salary to fit him, although I'm sure something could be worked out to fit a player of his caliber.

The one thing that strikes me the most about the Tavares situation is that there is not nearly as much reason for him to stay with the Islanders as there was for Stamkos to stay in TB. His team isn't making the playoffs, again (let alone being a contender like the Lightning), plus there are all the crazy issues with the ownership and the arena and what not. Unless he just loves the city that much or is loyal to a fault, I don't really see any reasons why Tavares would be that eager to stay in Long Island besides the fact they can offer him that extra year in a contract.

I don't blame Stamkos for not wanting to come to Toronto - if I were him I wouldn't have either. Tavares though is a different story...

The Leafs have the pieces to win now and can continue winning into the forseeable future. The Isles can and will offer him more money, but his agent will point out that this isn't where the real money is going to come from. Should he win a cup here then he will have a lifetime of endorsement deals and paid appearances to look forward to which he would not get anywhere else. I don't understand why he would leave this on the table.

I'll be surprised if Tavares doesn't sign with the Leafs. All pros and no cons.

Tavares doesn't have to come to Toronto to win or make more money. There are other contenders who could give him the same or more money (plus a better tax rate).

And he would leave "the chance to win in Toronto" on the table for the simple fact that if he doesn't win in Toronto (because believe it or not, it's not a guarantee), it'd be considered a failure and all the pressure, attention and bullpoop that comes with that.

More money, more privacy, same or better chance to win.
