Players that want to move teams to a top contender know that they will more than likely have to take a bit of a pay cut.

These players are already rich, and will only get more rich. I'm sure a tiny tax rate difference isn't going to be the decider. Or privacy for that matter.

Tavares can get 10+mln (e.g. Montreal or a team like Rangers, Buffalo).
But IF he signs with Leafs, I think it will be around 8million.
He will be able to get 2million more in sponsorship deals for sure.

Leafs will never ever be able to sign any free agents because of the high tax rates. All free agents will be signing with Dallas, Nashville, Florida, Tampa Bay or Vegas. These 5 teams will be taking turns winning Stanley Cups for the next 20 years.
