I must admit, I liked Gagner/Vanek/MDZ/Weircoch/Burmistrov signings. I thought that they would all be decent depth trades (hopefully for picks) at this years TDL, or next.
- Codes1087

I knew Weircoch and Burmistrov were waiver scraps. Was always wishful thinking to assume they had value. Every team has those guys on their roster or AHL.

I thought Vanek would at least bring back a (frank)ing 4th

MDZ I definitely liked, any dman with 2 legs apparently had value this past TDL. Plus even though he sucks, he seems like a good veteran I the room(mmm intangibles). Can easily flip him at the TDL next year for a mid round pick.

Gagner I didn’t mind either at the time, but man he sucks. We got the Philly version

When I female doged and moaned about the vet signings many told me to cool it because they would just be turned into assets at the TDL.

I'm hurt that people on here lied to me.

i spend all of my money on new equipment and beauty products for our son, Filip Zadina

and occasionally new "furniture" for the log cabin

I like The Who but out of all those 70's super groups, probably my least favourite.
- bloatedmosquito

Love them even though Townshend is a miserable old c*nt now. My first concert was The Who and The Clash in Seattle in '82. Saw their next 4 farewell tours and the their Quadrophenia tour. Lost complete interest after Entwistle died.

I am not going to bark about any of those signings, because they aren't going to hinder the team for years and years. They are short term, low risk, medium reward signings and they definitely stayed true to the idea of insulating a new/younger core.

signing a vet is perfectly fine, as long as they are not for 6 mill for 6 years. 2 years, on a cheap cap hit, they can sign whoever they want to help mentor youth.

Yeah, that’s fair. I’ll take all of those over 1 LE any day

Awesome!
I think they broke up shortly after that.
Saw John Entwistle at 86 St Music Hall. A savage evening of speed metal & beatings.

It's hard to "mentor" when you're 20 feet behind the play. If that's what you want then it's got to be the right mix of skill, speed, and experience.

The only mentoring most vets do is on how to play Cribbage or Dominos on flights between cities.

I also agree. I don't really understand the whole "need vets to mentor youth". In cases like Hutton and Virtanen, where you have kids who are pretty immature and need to step up, I get it.

Look at Boeser and Horvat though. They are mature as kids come these days. What could any vet possibly have to say to Boeser that he would take seriously.

I didnt like it, but understood the LE signing and thought he was going to be versatile enough to make it an alright deal. I still hold out hope he can be a solid all scenario guy who plays decent if we forget his salary - like Sutter.

As for those guys, I only liked Vanek, both as a rental and what he could bring. Disliked the term on Gagner/MDZ as I wanted both to be TDL assets for this year

MDZ should be easily flipped next year. If Gagner is trash for 2.5 years then he’s going to be hard to flip as a soft winger.

Hey I was also at that '82 concert I hated the Kingdome.

Edit: when we were crossing the boarder my buddy was hanging out the car window talking to a station wagon full of nuns, he said "we're going to see The Who, are you going to see The Who?"

I mentioned to a coworker the idea of paying a legend like Lidstrom an absurd amount of money to travel/hang around the team, be the mentor for Juolevi in that exact capacity, where there is no salary cap, just so he could feel better about trading Tanev

I agree he should be, but I was hoping a 1-year deal would keep the pressure on management to sell. I fear a hot streak in January might have them do something stupid...

100% this. It makes me chuckle.

Most talented guys in the NHL have experience running teams through their amateur days. To me, like the twins, vets can help the young guys prepare for the NHL grind through health and fitness, and also provide guidance on dealing with life as a well paid pro athlete.

There's lots of mentoring going on during practice and during game play, but that's not exclusive to the vets. Everyone shares tips and information as team mates.

I was at that concert as well. Went on the "Magic Bus" from Abbotsford. 3/4 of the busload was completely wasted by the time we got to Seattle. Really good concert, but bummed that I missed seeing Keith Moon.
