Risto is a top 4 d-man no doubt. I believe he isn’t as good as people made him out to be when he came out as a rookie, nor is he as bad as people make him out to be right now. But in the next couple of years you can draft and develop defenseman and sign some in free agency that can be adequate enough to carry the load. See New Jersey and the 6 d-man the Pens through out there last year when they won the cup without Letang.

It's almost as if young hockey players improve as they get older and gain experience. I've even heard that sometimes players are actually better at the end of their ELC than when they signed it.
