He actually is on the left tonight, but like you said he was tight to his partner and left his side of the ice wide open for Oshie.

I used to think his problem was adjusting to playing RD. Now that he's back at LD and he still has the same problems. He just drifts out of position.....constantly.

I'm not sure I can remember another dman who does that with such regularity. It's strange to watch. If Ruhwedel did that on a nightly basis he'd be in the AHL.

If I had to guess, they're getting Hunwick some games because he'll be needed at some point. I think Ruhwedel will be getting a jersey in the playoffs.

Overall he plays a pretty safe simple game, but I do like how he jumps in offensively sometimes. I just looked his CF for this season and over 52%.

Hunwick and Ruhwedel have played nearly the same amount of games 41 to 42 respectively. Hunwick has five more points, but is 48.8% CF and Ruhwedel is 52.2% CF.

My guess is the leaky PK. Maatta and Oleksiak are both playing there more then any point in their careers, so getting in a guy who has been a regular for years should help, at least in theory.

Just look at the Hall PP goal in the NJ game. That was all on Hunwick. He "drifted" almost to where Maatta was standing to the right of the net. He had no chance to get back in the shooting lane. It was almost comical how poorly he played that.

i thought the first period was choppy, but they had some good stretches regardless of the inability to score. this second so far though. yikes.
