He said Talbot is our number one next year. Priority is upgrades on D and wing.

He hasn’t inspired much no doubt

It’s such a weird position. I don’t understand it all. So much relies on confidence I guess. Like how can goalies be such a wall for awhile, then so awful?
And it’s pretty much the rule for all of em (lundq, rinne, bishop, quick )

I mean the oilers d was far better last season, but still, it’s a crazy positiom

More nonsense.
Nurse was still a big minus in the major mistakes for scoring chances for/against.
Bear showed a bit of offensive awareness but continually has been getting caved in in shots and chances.
Sekera may never be the same.

And blaming it all on Talbot is ridiculous. A lot higher quality chances against him is on the Defense.
Talbot didn’t stand on his head this year like last but it’s on the D as well as the goalie.

Nurse has become a great top 4 option by the eyes of literally everyone in here. If we're going into statistics, he has +2.1 Fenwick rel compared to the rest of the team [52.6 Fen%, which is a personal record] and he was Corsi + which altogether means that plays was being pushed towards the offensive zone, which also means that he was doing his defensive duties of preventing excessive development within the defensive zone. Last year, he was fen% - and we saw the excessive amount of defensive gaffs he made that were costly. This year has definitely been better with regards to defensive awareness, to say the least.

Bear, as I mentioned, still needs development. Highlighted on needing to become more defensively aware, but regardless, I think he's nearly there. Perhaps one more season? Or even just half a season of development? Not to mention, every game that went by, he was looking more and more comfortable out there, defensively, which I thought was a good sign. Still needs more development defensively, but he'll get there, methinks. Whether in half a season, 1 season, or more, we'll see.

Sekera may never be the same, but it's a risk we're going to have to take anyway going into next season if we don't trade him. I'm looking at his case optimistically. I just hope that he bounces back.

As for Talbot, he isn't even playing league average goaltending (.912% & 2.8 GAA via excel, might be off +/-0.05 SP% and +/-0.1 GAA, but pretty close when considering goalies who played more than 15 or so games). Couple that with the first goal on the first shot stat and it just hasn't been a pretty season for Talbot all. And the higher quality chances you mentioned are something every goalie need to face. Those are the moments where goalies need to make that key save. Unless you have a claim where it states that the Oilers give up the most high quality chances in the league, seems pretty arbitrary to me. Didn't state that this season is entirely this fault, but not having solid goaltending cripples a team's confidence, means that we are most likely trying to dig ourselves out of a hole, and in general, must be taken into account.

You’re a moron and no one gives a shyt about fenwick.

Nurse has more major mistakes on chances against than major contributions to scoring chances. Guess who is still positive? Yup Klef.

so many reasons that we’re not searching for another 1

-Talbots signed for another year and shown he can play high end 1.
-tending is a volatile position by nature. There are very few high end goalies that haven’t had weak seasons.
-No one potentially available is undoubtedly an upgrade
-We’ve got no money and a bunch of other guys to resign first.

They’ll look for a backup to take some workload off Talbot, but he’s unequivocally the guy going into next season.

- HB77

Just to clarify on this, not saying that we need to look for another #1. Perhaps an upgrade in backup I suppose at the very most and hopefully a bounce back from Talbot. I'm just trying to point out that Talbot should take part of some of the blame for this season. Like I mentioned, statistically, he isn't even playing league average goaltending. That 12 times a goal got scored on the first shot stat is ridiculous as well. I hope he finds his form going into next year and like you mentioned, goalies are voodoo, but not even having average level goaltending puts your team at such a disadvantage.
