Facts smacks... hind sight complaining is what we want! Now!

This draft will be far worse. It's a free for all after the top 3. I have no idea how it's going to go down. A very strange draft.

Sautner has been impressive . Nice start smart kid
- VANTEL

He’s been decent for sure.

But after the Corrado/Hutton/Stetcher experiences where they all looked their best at first and then regressed, I’m going to be cautious about any young dman who has a solid first 30-50 NHL games.

Tryamkin - Mccann - Virt - Forsling - Demko. Amazing draft. Sadly most of those assets are gone
- CanuckDon

lol

Look at that first round. Almost half of the kids picked in the first round have either already established themselves as impact players or are still considered to have high upside(Sanheim, Fabbri, etc). It was a deep 1st round class.

Canucks (frank)ed up in that 1st round.

I’m not sure who’s to blame since Benning was just recently hired, but someone done messed up.

I don't know if he'll be fine for sure, but I 100% think it's too soon to call him a good or bad pick.

He's a 19 year old dman who just put up 19 points in 38 games in Finland's top league, nothing earth shattering, but not bad either. Too soon to judge him.

Maybe I’m wrong, but getting two NHL players out of one draft is considered a success.

Sure the quotes on Gunner being “a player” show that Jimbo still thinks old time hockey, but I think they have some guys with a lot of potential too.

Need to actually tear it down this off season and carve out the vets that don’t get it done, gain some extra picks yadda yadda

I agree...just noting that 5 NHL players in one draft is fantastic. Their first round picks sucked!

If I was an owner and my team had 2 1sts in the 2003 draft(including the #10 pick) and came out with Andrei Kostisyn + Jeff Tambellini + Max Lapierre

I would not look back at that draft and give my GM/scouting staff a passing grade.

That's an extreme example of course, but that line of thinking is flawed.

A team with 2 1sts + picking top 6 in every round + an extra 3rd or 4th they acquired should have higher expectations than a team picking 27th with only 1 pick in each round.

And if a draft was really weak and produced very few impact NHL'ers, I'd be more inclined to give my staff a pass. However, if it was a deeper/stronger draft and we had 2 1st rounders, I'd set the bar pretty high.

not accusing you of being a liar or anything Dragon, but I would be curious to go back in the hockeybuzz archives, and actually see who had Sergachev over Juolevi back before we drafted OJ. I honestly do not remember one person, openly claiming, that they would prefer the Russian before the Fin. I also don't remember anyone picking OJ before Tkachuk/PLD, but I am an old man at the age of 30, so maybe I am forgetting.

The 2014 draft is gonna go down as a disappointment with them picking Jake Virtanen 6th overall and then pissing away pretty much every other pick except Demko in some form or another.

The 2015 draft looks to be a solid draft, thankfully.

The 2016 draft will IMO go down as a complete failure by the organization, sadly. Even if Juolevi turns out to be a good second pairing guy there were a lot better kids taken after him on "D".

The 2017 draft is largely an unknown but looks to be good, don't they all, hopefully better than their previous drafts except 2015.

As for 2018, they are at the bottom of the league again and have six picks, just dreadful for this clown-show!!

Agree for the most part. I had the good fortune to watch him closely here at Mem.Cup and I think once he adjusts to the NHL speed/skill Level he'll show us what he can do. I'm not overly worried about the pick.

Dragon did. Vantel did as well. Sergachev as their first D pick, I think most wanted Tkachuck instead of both though.

Yeah, I think I remember this as well.

I do know that most of us wanted whoever was left out of Tkachuk/PLD

And Dragon/Vantel did have Serg over OJ

A few people liked Chychrun as well

Crazy to think that we could have traded that pick + something else significant for Subban if PLD was still available

All I remember is the consensus of most people had PLD/Tkachuk. I don't really remember discussing any of the D all that much, but I guess it was a couple years ago.

I was on the Chychrun train. He does look pretty good, bit better defensively at this point than Sergachev is.

99% wanted Tkachuk. Vantel wanted Serg. I can't recall anybody that was paying attention wanting Chychrun. Perhaps in November but nobody wanted him in June.

Edit. I stand corrected, Neem wanted him
