I'll admit that I haven't looked at the goalie market at all. If it's weak, you might be right. If he's the #1 guy and there is a market, his value is high. We're talking about him right now, I imagine others are as well.

As of right now this is what the goalie market looks like for next season:
https://www.capfriendly.c...s/2019/caphit/all/goalies

There are some option but personally I would try to trade for Grubauer first before Free Agency starts and if you can't go hard after Raanta. There are other options but I think those two would be the best options.

Well i guess u can blame me if we do go on a winning streak

I wanna win this lotto for Dahlin even more than i wanted to win the McDavid one

- jdfitz77

I would obviously love to get Dahlin as well, but honestly I wouldn't be too upset if we only get pick number 2. I really like Svechnikov, I think he is just what Eichel needs. The 2 of them together Could make almost as much of an impact as drafting Dahlin. Also remember I said Could!

Unfortunately, to add new vets we would need to get rid of the ones we have now and I do not see that happening. Most of their contracts are basically immovable and until they play them out or get bought out we are stuck with them. No point adding any new ones, that we don't even know will be of any help, until the old ones are gone.
- Sabrehagan

Some of them (at least Moulson) were salary floor moves

Fair
But the easiest thing for us to do now is transition guys like E Rod, Baptiste, Bailey, etc into the lineup...
while we let guys like Pouliot & Nolan & Gorges walk

Trade guys who we can
Larsson & Girgensons will obviously be easier to move than Bogo & Pommer

We can’t just drop the 18 guys that struggled at times this year & replace them
Not realistic
Heck, even Jack has struggled

- jdfitz77

I'm in the minority but I want to see a healthy Bogo part of the blue-line next year. Not sure it's gonna happen though. I think he's still got a place on this team.

I've seen that, I was referring to the teams in the market for one.

If they can land him and split starts with Ullmark, I'd be thrilled. I really think he's someone else's #1 though.

There's still an awkward call to make on Lehner first.

His numbers are great and have been for years. His value is probably in the Lehner/Talbot ballpark.

You're trying to dump contracts on a team trying to save money to retain their players. They offer no value here. If it's a player and a pick, it's more like Bailey + a 2nd. I think I'd do that, so it's probably not enough.

- Lunaion

What?
Girgs & Larsson have Cap hits that are something like 1.6 & 1.4
That SAVES them some $$$ on Beagle,
who i think will make something like 2.5,
and will be 33 to start next year
Idk... maybe they aren’t interested in those guys
Seems plausible to me though

I also don’t think Girgs & Larsson are nearly as bad as ppl make them out to be
They’re decent players on a crappy team

I'm fine with that as long as it doesn't take time away or even push back/out Guhle and/or Nelson. Once Bogo's contract is done the Sabres won't be keeping him and I would prefer to use players that are part of our future over guys we won't be keeping, if it comes down to one or the other.

It’s taken me about a month of solid research & watching clips & games...
but i also have Svechnikov #2
I’d even be ok with Zadina at #3

We need a stud defenseman more than a stud forward though

I’ve been a Bogo defender somewhat
But he just can’t stay healthy

Even when he’s able to be in the lineup, he’s hardly ever at 100%
And i think that keeps him from “playing his game” by not being as physical & not skating with the puck
It seemingly wrecks his confidence,
which results in the often skid dish play we’ve seen from him

If he can’t stay healthy...
idk that we can expect good play
And he just can’t stay healthy

If Dahlin wasn't in this draft Svechnikov would definitely go #1 overall. I also think he will be more of a goal scorer then Zadina will. Plus last time we drafted someone high from the Q (weakest CHL league) who we all thought would be great, well he isn't even in the NHL anymore. I just feel safer with Svech or Zadina. Hopefully, we can win either 1 or 2 in the draft because yes we Definitely Need that stud Defenseman, but we also need a high goal scoring winger. I would be happy walking away with either one of them, but you would have to be blind, deaf, dumb, and/or stupid to not want Dahlin on your team.

Regardless...
trading a guy who has 1 year left on his deal that runs for about 1.5mil isn’t “dumping a contract”
And i believe i said “MAYBE they’d have interest...”

Who knows?
Maybe they think those guys aren’t any good like u do
Maybe they think one of them can fill a 4th line role?

Just throwing it out there

Even if it was Bailey & a 2nd like u suggested...
is that really all that pricy?

You’re like my brotha from another mutha
Pretty much agree with all this...
Except Zadina doesn’t worry me at all
Better skater & shooter than Grigorenko

I also think there is a chance Zadina drops out of the top 3 if either Montreal gets pick 2 or 3, because I think they will grab Tkachuk because they really need a Center, or if pick 2 or 3 goes to a team lacking on Defense reaches for a defender or a team that is fine waiting until Boqvist develops, because some see him as being close to what Dhalin currently is but just needs a few more years of development.

I could see Tkachuk jump ahead of Zadina
I’d be shocked if a defenseman does

I'd say so. Lehner was a #21, Talbot was 2 and 3. #32 and a second tier prospect seems in the middle of those 2.

Like I said, I'd make the deal, so it's probably light. Grubauer's better than Lehner, but Lehner was an overpay. Who knows. Takes more than 1 interested team to get that return.

If the Sabres stay where they are and finish last that 2nd will be more valuable than Bailey. This draft is pretty deep and having the first pick in the second round the Sabres will still have a good chance of grabbing a good payer, especially if someone falls out of the first round. I like Grubauer but I'm not sure I would want to spend this year's 2nd if we finish dead last, next years I have no problem with.

Of the teams who need goalies,
a few of them are in the Caps division (Philly & the Isles)
So that would help us

Detroit, Vancouver & us looking
Maybe Edmonton, Calgary, Arizona & Carolina

In the end...
i don’t think he costs a ton

Pretty sure they will trade him,
so we will see

Honest Question: If we are picking anywhere between 1 and 4 would you consider trading down with the islanders for more first round picks?

Personally, no way in hell, especially top 2, but apparently 1 person thinks Buffalo would/should because we need "Depth" apparently, more than another star player.

ABSOLUTELY NOT

That person on Cap Friendly is outta their damn mind

At pick 4 I’d be tempted, depending where the Isles top pick was... but no way if we are 1-3

I don't like assuming top 4, but hypothetically, 8 and 12 for 4 would have to make you think. I don't think I could pass on Tkachuk/Zadina though. If they slide to 5, then I'd do it.

Clay already did once

Hughes we should just get rid of
Our pass rush specialist has been averaging 5 sacks a year

Put his $$$ towards Dez (or whoever)

- jdfitz77

You save the most on Hughes post June 1st.

($4.6 vs $7.5 savings)

I'd definitely go after Grubauer. I don't see them moving Holtby and he's there long term as he's only 28 plus they have Samsonov who's only 21 waiting in the wings. Unless they could pry Samsonov away from Washington.

You absolutely entertain any and all offers if you aren't picking 1.

If you're able to stay in that 5/6 range you still be able to get one of Hughes or Bovqist.

This team needs assets at this point and lots of them. They're starting to remind me of the Oilers, in that all their top prospects are going to be on the big club with nothing in the pipeline to call up.

The one thing that could either hurt us, help us, maybe not matter at all, is that Grubauer is eligible for arbitration. If he selects to go to arbitration do they just walk away from the offer or try to trade him before he can even choose arbitration and then the new team will have to deal with it, that is if it comes to that. If he goes to Arbitration and the Capitals walk away it may be more difficult to get him as a UFA then again maybe not.
- Sabrehagan

If he goes to arbitration there's a chance with his stats he could get in that 4ish range IMO. That is something Washington just cannot afford. They are starting to get top heavy in cap numbers.
