Karlsson totally wants to help out Eugene get the most return for him, of course he will sign a nice easy contract for a team to trade for him after July 1st.
they totally won't botch this trade at all by demanding Ryan to be added in it in an effort to save more money and not get max value for your best player - DDM-Coga
Teams will be lining up to pay a TREASURE TROVE of assets to get a guy whose best years are already behind him, who is signed for 8 more years at 10+
The only thing more stupid than signing that contract would be trading any significant assets for it. |

Will this happen before or after the Tavares sign and trade Ek?
Please tell itโs so exciting! - nyisles7
Ek is 60% sure that Tavares will stay with the Isles. But he's 70% sure that he will be joining the Leafs. Soon he'll be 90% sure that Tavares will be part of a sign and trade with the Sens for Karlsson. |

I'm having a hard time deciding who's more stupid, Eklund or most commenters to this story. Anyone who suggests Karlsson is over the hill loses all credibility real fast.
The guy has played 8 games less yet could very well lead all defensemen in points despite playing for one of the worst team in the league. He's been the best D in the NHL for the last 5 years and has at least as many ahead of him.
Teams would give a boatload of assets to get guys like Malkin, Crosby, MacKinnon, Stamkos and Tavares. Karlsson is the equivalent at his position.
If traded, Karlsson will command a great return. The fans of the team that gets him will boast about landing the best D in the league. Other team's fans will harp about how Sens got fleeced or should have extended him. Fans are a funny bunch. |

so we're moving off of the "gearing up for MASSIVE offer sheet for [insert name here]" on to the sign and trade... none of which will ever come to fruition... so i wont even bother with the so-called particulars... |

If Peter Chiarelli trades Draisaitl entering his best years for Karlsson and gives up that much, he deserves to be fired and publicly executed |

The "Art of the deal" starring Peter Chiarelli...
Oilers trade McDavid, Draisaitl, Nurse and a #1 pick to the Sens for Karlsson, Stone, Hoffman, #1 pick.
Karlsson walks away as a UFA next summer. Stone and Hoffman do as well when their deals are up.
Chiarelli trades his #1 pick to the Isles for Calvin De Haan. Isles win draft lottery and select Rasmus Dahlin.

Lemme guess Ek ? Your hockeyboner9000 has your beloved Flyers getting to the Finals? We all know your machine is a joke. You sure your not taking a play out of the South Park playbook when Cartmen dresses up as the Awesome-O robot to fool Butters. That would explain a lot actually!!

Draisatl entering his prime for an aging Karlsson on a max contract.
Seems about right for Edmonton based on their history. - mkrisnosky
See, the problem with that is it doesnโt seem like something Dorion/Melnyk would do.
We need s 3rd team involved to take Ottawaโs 1st, and give them a stupidly high cap, but low salary player. And Nuge from Edmonton, too. Because Chia. |

Tyson Barrie has 52 points in 61 games...Karlsson has 57 points in 67 games. They are the same 70 point pace in a 82 game season. So lets not pretend hes would be the clear scoring leader for Dmen if he was healthy.
The Sens are a mess, publicly with their loud mouth owner, in rumours...how EK and Ryan were given the impression they were traded on the Sunday before the deadline but the deal fell through....to how Sens fans were even chirping EK in his Instagram comments after his son passed away.
Point is that Karlsson is going to get a clean break from this dumpster fire of an organization but he isnt going to be doing them any favours on the way out. Why should he? He has been treated like garbage this whole year starting from Eugene basically throwing a hissy fit after Karlsson said he wouldn't take ea home town discount. |

Not what I saw anyone say.
Best years are already behind him. This is true.
EVERYONE except Ottawa fans, recognizes that he plays as a 4th forward.
One thing he is absolutely the best in the league at is almost catching up to guys who blew by him when he coughed up the puck in the offensive zone, yet again. |

Exactly. EK doesn't owe the Sens anything. He's not doing a sign and trade. No way. |

You bring up a good point. Why would he go for a sign and trade knowing the team he is going to immediately becomes weaker now, and in the future from the assets they have to give up. If he goes for this, just so he can get the 8th year, then I am not sure you want him on your team.
My bet is Sens trade his rights for a pick.

Only way he does an extension as part of a trade is to really stick it to Melynk and take a sweat heart deal to the team that he has agreed to be traded too.
But if Sens are trying to force a team to take on Bobby Ryan too. No one is going to take on 18m in Cap hit bw the 2 of them in 2019-20 season, especially having to deal with Bobby Ryan NMC as expansion draft comes into play.
As soon as they package those 2 together, they kill and pending trade return value with how much of an anchor Ryan would be to a new team |

No kidding. If I'm eating the warm sandwich (Ryan) then I'm not giving up a Kings ransom for EK. At least I'm not gutting my team to acquire him. How often do "sign and trades" even happen? This isn't the NBA. |

EK is going to get a decent return, but not the crap some Sens fans were saying from teams. From the Avs guys were claiming it had to be Makar, Jost, their 1st round pick back and another piece
Sens fans are going to be in a world of hurt if thats the level of return they think they are going to get |
