The goalie search should've ended there.

I think he has the best chance to be the 2nd best all around dman behind Provorov. Not a knock on Ghost who has fantastic offensive skills and is very good defensively. Sanheim with his size and reach is just better in the corners then him. All 3 are terrific passers out of the zone.

All three logging big minutes along with morin is going to rock.

Yeah, but you're still likely to get a decent players. I still wouldn't be shocked to see st Louis struggle the next bit and miss
- Hextall271

Heres hoping. They were hovering around having that pick be 14th overall at worst for quite a while. Need them to fall back to Earth a bit. I don't mind that pick dropping a few spots but going from 13th to 20th in a matter of a few games is pretty crappy.

It was kind of an organizational philosophy. Clarke tended to focus on centres and then wasn't worried about tending which was weird considering Bernie was so big getting them the cups.

When we got jvb instead of cujo in 98, you knew it wasn't a priority and hey thought we could win with simply adequate tending.

- Hextall271

God. That was infuriating.

Wasn't Richter somewhat available that season, too?

And Beezer--with his blinding, bedazzled goalie mask and problems holding the post.

If Hart wasn't so promising--I'd consider putting a package together for a guy like a Price. Flyers have enough depth in the D pipeline to put together a package. I mean, if you had a goalie you could count on for 10 years--wouldn't you? Rather than watching/hoping/cringing every season?
- Moose_15

He's 30 and signed for 8 more years so it's dicey. Really the killer is that cap hit. 10.5 mil. I would need Montreal to eat close to the absolute max to even consider it.

Richter was available but he was going back to NY.

Clarke didn't like to spend and Beezer was gotten on the cheap. Plus, he liked how he performed for him in Fla.

I don't with the way they've been playing.

Really you do not want them in the playoffs, what kind of fan are you? It doesn't matter how they make it, they should be in. Anything can happen in the playoffs re:2010.

Yes it was. The story I heard was cujo expected to sign in philly and was wearing a Flyers jersey when his agent called to say that he was going to the leafs. Who promptly beat us out first round as cujo outplayed jvb. Just great.

I was pretty young when Clarke was GM but even I knew the guy didn't want to spend money unless he was getting a forward. Infuriating.

I 've really enjoyed this season, it hasn't gone the way I have hoped with the amount of games the kids got, but they are here now playing major minutes and carrying the load. They need average goal tending the rest of the way, certainly not a given at this point. Now, they can make teams pay who want to fore check them hard. The days of Grossmann and Schenn chip off the glass are over.

Yeah. The cap hit is the real killer. I don't worry so much about his age right now--I mean, that caliber goalie can keep competitive into his late 30s--Luongo, Fleury, Brodeur, Lundqvist. 10.5 though--yikes.

With Hart being 2-3 years away, no. I don't do it.
If Hart gets injured. Yup. Do it. Don't care at that point.
But good grief--the organization has had like 25 years to correct this error.

Dear lord. I just realized we outshot them 45 32! Ugh. With even decent tending we win that.

No to price. He has taken a step back and had a few injury problem. If Hart has an epic debut next year in the AHL I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be up the following or maybe even during the season next year. It really depends on him. If he take some time to adjust and isn't quite feeling it than we let him develop. I mentioned weeks ago I would still inquire about both Dell and Raanta in free agency. I would also look to move Neuvirth.

The blues are in a playoff spot with a game in hand on most of the teams above them. If they continue to even play 500 hockey it seems like they will squeak into the playoffs. We also help them by beating Colorado and Dallas. I'm not willing to put the flyers playoff hopes in jeopardy to help st louis miss. If we end up with 2 picks 16-21 it' still a good trade when we made the trade we thought we were getting 2 late 1sts from the blues not a mid rounder in a super deep draft - especially defensively.

Yep. Plus kony, oscar Patrick. Good progress this year. Just wish we hadn't hit that skid early march. We'd be right there for the division.

Beezer actually played well that series (1.46 GGA - .938 SV%), but for the oft occasional bad goal. But the Flyers never scored more that 2 goals in each game for the entire series IIRC which made the bad goal let up really bad.

Yeah. As I remember it, breeze shut them out game 1 and was like a few mins from doing it again in game 2. Gave a soft one up and they lost in ot. Cujo killed them that series.

The 10 game skid, too.

Seems like every team has gone on these super hot/super cold stretches. I wonder if the late changes to the schedule to accommodate the inclusion of the Golden Knights contributed.

Normally, I'd say that's the mindset of a young team trying to navigate the highs and lows of an NHL season--but it's been every team it seems.

I can't see Simmonds getting re-signed. Hextall is not going to want to commit the kind of money it's going to take, let alone get locked in long term with an aging power forward.

I can see Hextall deciding to ride with him next year but I definitely don't see him here by the time the contract expires. His struggles this season only futher this belief for me.

I would dangle him this off-season in a deal for some combination of a young prospect knocking on the NHL door and a 1st. Basically the Schenn trade. I just want one player that we don't have to wait 2-3 years on in the deal.

- hereticpride

I understand not resigning him, but at the very least he adds depth to a depleted bottom 6.

Now how much and how long he wants is another story. As well as some of the other kids they have coming up.

It's a tough call to say the least.

Shhhhhh.... Don't give credence to the narrative that the Flyers haven't had a goalie in 30 years.

I hear that...Patrick, TK, OL, Provy, Ghost , Sanheim and Hagg prior to this injury are currently at least constants in the lineup and all producing. Could be an additional 2-3 young players inbound next season. If that doesn't excite people I dont know what will.

As is always the case other than when Mason was putting up solid numbers we are getting hurt by goaltending. The OT winner was poorly played by Mrazek and Lyon looked like he was trying to slide into second base on his last goal.

Can't wait for a time when we cant say that about a Flyers team.

We will see how he rebounds. People were selling giroux for pennies last year. If we get a quality trade offer so be it but otherwise I want to see how he does next year before making any decisions.

Elliott has shown he is good for a 45 game workload. It is up to Hexy to figure out the rest of the wotkload. We all know Hart will be #1 goalie in LV to start the season. Do they resign Stollie as insurance to tandem with him in LV. They have to do better then Neuvy as the backup to start the season.

Also people have to keep in mind regarding Hart, the kid isn’t going to be just handed a spot. He is going to have to do the right things away from the puck and prove he is better than the veterans on this team. I don’t care what his pedigree is or what he has done in junior.

He will also have to prove he is of sound mind and not stray from the Flyers PR strategy. Steve Mason is a good example of what not to do.

I don't think that hart gets the #1job off the hop in lv. I'd send him there and see how he does. He might end up the 2nd stringer but I'd def be sure he got 50 games to develop.
