A thing about Simmonds, I have to believe there are some injury things still going on.

To me he is playing at a Weise level of vanilla.

I’m not disappointed if they get that scenario. I think they can beat the Caps. In fact, I’m confident they can.

And if they do and have momentum anything can happen. But it’s going to be tough to get there. The other teams are not really helping on the out of town scoreboard on most nights.

We 'll see about Columbus to have that long of a streak and then go back to be really hot the rest of the way who knows. They have the goaltender, but their defense hasnt been great. NJ is giving up over 40 shots a night, their defense is even worse. The Flyers can still get 3rd in the division.

If Mrazek is the only other option I have to ride Lyon. Elliott can't get back soon enough.
- hereticpride

Do we know Elliot’s status? Bill said the other day that Brian was back on the ice at practice. I’d have to think he’s pretty close based on the initial timetable.

I don’t think anyone can reliably say how far away Hart is...it could be next year...it could be in two...it might be three. Too bad Mrazek has played this poorly, he really had the chance to take over the reins. Elliot is getting up there in age and it’s not a good sign when older goalies go under the knife. Nuevy simply can’t be relied on.
Hopefully the Flyers address the back up goalie position this summer if Elliot is indeed healthy enough to play 50 or so games next year....maybe Hart is the back up, but most likely will be in the A. The Flyers will need to address it for sure if the most likely thing happens.

Yup. Just like the shootout thing, generally average at best goaltending is bleeding them points far too often. Not just this year. Not sure if there still is, but there was some decent hype with Sandstrom.

Carter Hart is 19 years old. I think you can reliably say he won't be a NHL starter(meaning capable of carrying a NHL starter's workload) within the next two years. It's just not the norm.

5-3 goal for Frost 2-0 7 minutes in. He should look good in orange.

Yeah. That's what I'd go with. Mrazek is playing himself out of a job here for sure. Hexy will prob walk away from him this summer.

Probably but right now I think Lyon is done.

Gibson would maye be the other to go along with Murray as fairly young to play?

With their goalie situation, you can’t definitely say anyone is done this year.

Might be. Neuvy will get hurt 4 periods into his return and we'll be right back to where we started

Yeah. There aren't many.

As much promise as Hart has shown he hasn't even played in the AHL yet. I don't see Hextall rushing his development. If he goes to the Phantoms and is lights out then maybe he gets here sooner in a 1B type capacity. But he has to show that first.

Of course, but barring injury he is the 3 option right now assuming Neuvy is ready to go. Once Elliott is healthy back to the AHL Lyob goes. I'm not discouraged by this team. We all know the warts, I'm relieved the young kids are carrying the load. Sure, I want better goal tending, but it is what it is at this point.

Sandstorm had a nightmarish riddled injury filled year....just starting to get some games in....he still might be “the guy” in a couple of years....I think his plan was to play one more year over seas....that could change. He’s a big talented kid.

There very well could be. But lots of mental errors that I'm not sure you can blame on injuries.

Vanilla is a good word. Unless he's parked in the crease he's pretty much been a non factor for the majority of the season.

Mostly I’d agree 100 %.... and that’s probably going to be what happens, but Hart is a special talent. Sometimes kids like that buck the norm.

The goalie free agent market is a wasteland. They are screwed at goalie for one more year minimal

Thing is, Elliot kind of played above his career norm for stretches this year. He isn't a young buck either who is used to playing a poopload of games.

Biron, Niity, Leighton, Boucher, Bryz, Neuvirth and Mrazek. Outside of some longer stability in Mason this poop needs to end. Its the most important position.

- flyer_nutter

Starting Goalies since the cancelled 04-05 season (13 seasons ago):
1. Robert Esche
2. Antero Nittymaki
3. Martin Biron
4. Ray Emery / Brian Boucher
5. Michael Leighton
6. Sergei Bobrovsky
7. Ilya Bryzgalov
8. Steve Mason
9. Brian Elliot / Michal Neuvirth

NJD:
1. Martin Brodeur
2. Cory Schneider / Keith Kinkaid

NYR:
1. Henrik Lundqvist
2. Cameron Talbot
3. Antti Raanta

Pitt:
1. Marc-Andre Fleury
2. Ty Conklin
3. Matt Murray

NYI:
1. Rick DiPietro
2. Dwayne Roloson
3. Evgeni Nabokov
4. Jaroslav Halak
5. Thomas Greiss

Carolina:
1. Martin Gerber
2. Cam Ward
3. Anton Khudobin

Columbus:
1. Marc Denis
2. Fredrik Norrena
3. Pascal Leclaire
4. Steve Mason
5. Sergei Bobrovsky

It's pretty freaking embarrassing.

Dont see it, and imo I'd move on this off-season. League took his biggest strength away in playing on the edge. Sad because I loved old Radko.

I dont think he gets resigned by the Flyers unless they want to bridge Konency and/or Provorov. Lindblom will assume net front presence on PP1 IMO.

I'm in the same boat with regard to the team and not rushing hart. What happened though was the team had a crazy February that pushed them to first and got our imaginations to run wild. It's very promising but they've got way too many holes. I want them to. Ale the playoffs so the kids get the experience. It'll speed up the window to contend. I'd say in 2 years we're right there

Well I certainly hope that's the case but you can't depend on it. There's been a few people here over the course of a season that are ready to anoint the kid starting goalie with him never having played a single game beyond the junior level.

I just don't think you can rush a goalie prospect like that.

I don't think it's unreasonable to bring Elliott back next year. The prob I have is with neuvy. He can't reliably back up if he's always hurt. So does that mean we keep mrazek and hope he comes around or stollie or Lyon? I don't know.
