He's always been a risk reward player, but anyone can see he's been making more mistakes this year particularly when he's in position and goes for a steal only to get walked.

Not like he's garbage, but this hasn't been his best year and I'm not buying just blaming it on the goalies.

- Tojo.

2nd worst 5v5 sv% in the league as a team. The goalies share some of the blame.

You also have to realize Letang has better 5v5 HDCA60 numbers than all other PIT D than Dumo. Yet all of them have a better on ice sv%.

Some on the goalie, sure, but he's putting the goalies in bad situations as well. Even the article referenced showed video of Letang repeatedly getting walked while going for low-percentage steals leading to chaotic odd-man breaks.

I know he does a lot of things well and has some great under-lying numbers. But anyone who's watching can see he's making more errors that are leading to goals against than he normally does.

I am assuming you are talking about PA. It doesn't have anything to do with being "puritans" and everything to do with the fact that our state is basically run by labor unions and people who will sell their souls if it means making labor unions more powerful. At the time prohibition ended in the 30's the state began running both the distribution and retail sale of wine and spirits, while allowing private retail sale of beer (with its own set of stupid laws, most of which have finally been repealed recently). Thus, the clerks who ring up your purchases at the PLCB stores are unionized employees of the state government. Getting rid of the PLCB system would mean laying off these 5000 or so unionized state employees - something that state Democrats will never do and many state Republicans (at least in the state senate) don't have the balls to do. So we are basically stuck with it forever, or at least until it goes bankrupt (which may actually happen in a few years). Unsurprisingly, the state puts the interests of 5000 unionized state employees ahead of the interests of 8+ million consumers.

There are a few beer distributors near PLCB stores but in general they are rare and always incidental. The PLCB will never intentionally put a store near a beer distributor as that would give the impression of a public monopoly deliberately favoring a related, private business. It would make them look even more corrupt than they already are. In some cases beer distributors/retailers have set up near PLCB stores on their own, though.

In my case I don't drink spirits but do drink wine, especially German-style semi-dry to dry white wines like Gewurztraminer and Riesling. However, I refuse to buy from the PLCB stores for any reason. There are basically three ways around it for wine - buy from an in-state winery (legal), make it yourself (legal), drive out of state and bring it back (technically illegal). I have done all three . I have made huge amounts of my own wine. It is a lot of work but rewarding. I have thought of stacking the cases in the shape of a hand giving the middle finger and sending a picture of it to the PLCB.

Love Riesling. My family incessantly makes fun of me for it because they say that's what the old ladies at church drink. They're all wine snobs and that gene just did not rub off on me.

I’m a former Sommelier and I’ll say that Reisling is amazing and one of the most versatile wines in the world. In the states we got exposed to mainly sweet versions of it and there is a wide range of dry to sweet that are great... Gewurtzraminer is also amazing; probably my favorite dry white, but the dessert versions are also delicious.

That's the thing. I don't like dry. I like the sweet ones and that's why my family just lays it on me. Everything's gotta be absurdly dry for them to like it.

Also that's cool. How do you even get into that?

Damn! Impressive, what level? Advanced?

I used to brew for years but had to stop once we had our second child, no time. Thankfully I have a lot of friends I brewed with that opened breweries so I have no shortage of good beer, but recently I've gotten back into wine in a big way. This summer I plan to try out more white wine as I tend to exclusively drink red's (Bordeaux, Piedmont, Tuscany, Morgon, etc.). I had thought of studying for the somm exam but I'm not in the industry and really don't have sufficient time.

That's cool. The funny thing is that I always associated "the old church lady" with really dry wines . I like both (except for really sweet) but with dry it just depends more on the underlying taste. Riesling and Gewurztraminer can run the gamut from sweet to dry, although they are usually semi-dry (which is perfect).

Le Orange Juice made so many mistakes this year that led directly to goals, it's not even funny. And then he just raises his hands and complains to refs or someone, because in his mind it is never his fault that he made a turnover that led to a goal.

The way he has played this year, I would much rather have Cole play than Tang. It's not a coincidence that CBJ goes on 10 game win streak once Cole is traded there.

While Tang was always risk/reward type of player, this season there was a lot more risk and negative results than rewards. He keeps playing like this once playoffs start, pens are 1 and done.

I love all levels of Riesling. Learning German wine and understanding the sweetness pyramid was really interesting.

And long story, but I stumbled on a program that teaches you and took it for a year. I’ve always been a food/wine/booze nerd.

I was looking for a career change at the time and it just kind of fell on my lap.

Good taste in Reds there! If you like the Barolos/Bararescos you need to try Taurasi which is the Aglianico grape. They called it the Barolo of the south and way less expensive.

I didn’t do the Court of Masters, but I would be considered a little under an advanced level.

You should also check out some higher end Langhe Nebbiolo. They can pack the punch of a Barbaresco.

I do love Morgon and the other cru beaujolais; they’re very overlooked.

If you want the whole experience get yourself a sixer of Iron City or IC Lite. I think its literally brewed with the pre-treated city sewer water!

I was a military brat and lived in Germany on a vineyard called black cat in a town called Zell on the mosel river. Anyways believe it or not our local grocery here in Roanoke VA started selling their wine. It was a riesling. If u see it give it a go. I'm mainly a beer guy. But love that wine. We helped make it on occasion, for a discount on our rent, from picking grapes all the way to stomping the grapes with our bare feet. Yeah kindof gross but it's a "thing" over there.

So are the stats implying that most high danger shots with Tanger on the ice end up in the net? That's why he has a smaller number?

My untrained eye has seen some aweful mistakes made by Dumo & Tanger that end up in the back of the net (yes we remember the bad things), that really can't be blamed on the goaltender, trying to push the play or jumping up in offence - they were just really poopty plays from the players - REALLY poopTY!

Can goaltending be blamed for Knuckles GA on the PK? He plays big minutes against top opposition?
