This is an insane statement.
If Manning is a limited player then maybe he shouldn't be in the lineup in the first place. - KGBflyers10
Nothing insane about it. Have to look at the alternatives given the coach. |

I disagree, Hakstol did not overplay Vandevelde last season. I wish we had a player like Vandevelde this season to play ahead of Weise and Leier. He was a better player then they are now. Every year there is an influx of new players and a turnover. - MJL
Sounds like Weise should be in the AHL |

The coach who benched Sanheim and rode Manning for two months no matter how much he struggled.
Hakstol knows full well that Manning was struggling for quite awhile and struggled again last night after getting back into the lineup. |

At that time Sanheim was struggling even more. Now we see that Sanheim has returned, found his confidence and is playing better, where do you think they rank on the depth chart now? |

I'm sorry but if Vandevelde was a better player than weise and leier I doubt he'd be playing in the Liiga right now |

I sure hope Hakstol isnt the coach for very long. Far too many head games with young players, and he lets veterans make boneheaded plays, Gudas, without consequence. Go back to college with that head game style of coaching |

The only thing that's changed for Sanheim is his PDO.

Sanheim is playing much better all-around hockey than before. Better gaps. Better under forechecking pressure. Better defensive stick. These are alll things Travis himself said he worked on tightnening up and it shows. More physical, too. It's not just about numbers. |

VandeVelde must have had a REALLY bad summer.
Goes from playing all but 4 games the past 2 seasons in the NHL, and couldn't find an NHL job this year. His skillset must have taken a nosedive in the 2 months between the the end of last season and the beginning of free agency.
Heck, he couldn't even crack the roster of a horrible Ottawa team on a PTO. |

Amazing how 18 games in the AHL totally fixed all the massive holes in his game. Maybe they should send Hagg and Konecny down to learn how to tighten things up. |

VandeVelde is a dime-a-dozen role player. He probsbly could have played on someone else's 4th line this year in the NHL (or be an AHL-NHL swingman) but there's a lot of competition for such spots and his camp tryout with Ottawa didn't go that great. He had Hakstol's trust (and Berube's before that, to a lesser degree) to where he could get more leeway at camp but other teams have their own similar players they trust. That's how it goes. |

I disagree, we've had far dumber. The 18-page discussions about the effectiveness of #fancystats were pretty horrible. |

It was never a question of massive holes. It was making small in-game adjustments with enough ice time to do so, which he wasn't getting in the NHL. |

That has zero to do with it, plus you need to re-read my actual statement.

Hakstol is doing an outstanding job in coaching and developing the young players in my opinion and I feel very confident in speculating that Hextall feels the same way.

Totally agree. I think he would've righted the ship either way, it was the playing time that mattered. |

I think Manning is good enough to play in the NHL
I don't think Manning is good enough to be playing regularly for the Flyers this year |
