The way Gudas has been playing lately I very much doubt it. |

I'm glad there's at least one person on all these Flyers boards that defends Manning...lol. His Corsi is in the top half of all D-men who have played a good amount of minutes, he has the lowest turnovers per game among the Flyers regular D, he does bring some offensive ability, and he is not afraid to battle against the boards in his own zone.
Manning usually makes one major flub per game that is an eyesore, and this skews a lot of the hate towards him. He also makes ill advised pinches on occasion, although he seems to have cut back some on those during the year. I honestly don't think Gudas has been any better since the beginning of the year, and if anything he has been worse.
I still don't believe Hagg should have made the team out of the preseason. I've never been a fan of his vanilla game. Sanheim should have been here the entire season playing in his place. I could care less that he leads the league in hits....whoopie. Now, let's be sure to all criticize Manning the first time he makes a mistake tonight. |

without question Gudas and Manning have been the MOST CHALLENGED D pair. So Hak doensn't liKE the chemistry, sit the consistently bad player. Now, we know due to the need of vet presence they can't but to put Manning back in is terrible. I don't like the message it says to the team or Hagg. Is hak trying to get into Hagg's head.
DOUBLE STANDARDS. - wcorvette
When Hakstol decided to take Manning out of the lineup and replace him with Hagg, where was this need for veteran presence at?
Hakstol has played Hagg, a rookie, in 70 games so by scratching for a game he's trying to get into his head?
I'll lay out the only real DOUBLE STANDARD here. When Hakstol doesn't scratch a player some fans want out, he doesn't know what he's doing. When he scratches a player the fans want in, he doesn't know what he's doing. Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.
Just exactly what is this perceived fantasy message being sent to the team because the coach is deciding to scratch a rookie for tonight's game? |

Gudas over his career has been a good defenseman with numbers similar to a top 4 defenseman while also being a physical intimidating presence on the back end. He's also a right handed defenseman which is something nobody else on the team brings. He 100% deserved the chance to try and work through his mistakes. Manning has had a descent season but his numbers and eye test suggest he's nothing more than a 6/7 and has been treated as such. However based on recent play I think Gudas should be riding the bench over Hagg or Manning.
As far as Hagg for most of the year he's been near the top in hits and one the team best in +- despite being relied on in a primarily shutdown and pk role vs other teams best players. People often liken him to hjarmlsson (probably botched spelling) and that's a really good comparison for him. Hjam in his prime years was and probably still today is better than gudas or manning. |

Bubble team is what the season began with, once Coots, TK, Ghost, G, jake and more recently Patrick exceeded expectations, the original expectation of bubble team should have gone up - wcorvette
Couturier definitely exceeded expectations. Not surprised by Voracek. Point wise Gostisbehere is not a surprise. I'm pleased he has progressed in other areas of his game this season. Patrick and Konecny are doing well. A lot of the growth of the young players can be attributed to Hakstol's ability to guide and develop young players. He has done an outstanding job with that.

Right now, based on where they are in the standings, yes, I expect the Flyers to make the playoffs.

Vet presence refers to sitting gudas in stead of sitting Hagg. My opinion is yes confidence and emotion are a part of hockey, business and life. It’s called a discussion, which start from from opinions, you or I are not in the locker room, though Dave Isaac was and mentioned the room being quiet etc. I have no preference on rookie or vet, I just want them to win. Your example of double standard is yours, I agree but that has nothing to do with my reference to a double standard. Gudas has been bad, he wasn’t made to sit , Hagg is being made to sit, appears appears to be a double standard. Before you get into your self righteous rant, please note I did say I agree with most of most of what Hak has done.
The idea that you think you “need to lay it out for me” well that just makes you who you are, just a little man who needs to feel better about himself. |

Speaking of double standards, you and I are also not involved in the player evaluations for the team. So while you may feel that Gudas deserves to sit, the coach may not. So this double standard that you think exists is just an invention on your part. Whether that refers to Gudas, Hagg, or Manning. The need to lay it out comes from the obvious double standard in your post and from nothing more.
This "little man" will be the bigger man and refrain from posting anything personal towards you.

It’s my opinion genius, you know, you have one and I have one. you don’t know the truth and I don’t know the truth. Maybe we should all just post what Hak wants us to but then there be none no need for the message board.
Again you write like you know all and are here to correct us, you know as much as we do, which is an educated opinion.
You being the bigger man and not insulting, now that is rich, your writing insults consistently, can you really not tell? I ask sincerely, maybe you don’t. |

(credit to yueng for the intitial post that I cant quote)
Hak on Hägg sitting: "It’s not always just about the individual. The pair, between him and Gudy, it wasn’t a ton of easy chemistry there. We ended up in some situations with and against speed where we ended up with some bad gaps. The pair wasn’t as effective as we need it to be."
Why sweet jesus why. - flyer_nutter
right, so kill it after 1 game, because the manningudas pair, which we have 70 games of absolute poop, is much better to go back to. let's keep the better player out of the lineup.
bad gaps. not an effective pair.
i'm completely done with him. i mean, JFC. (frank) off, hak.

It's my opinion that the opinion you offered was misguided. Nothing insulting about that. Opinions are free game, people are not.
The coach has decided to sit an NHL rookie defenseman out for a game and insert an unpopular player. One player move! I stated that I don't agree with it because I simply think that Hagg is a better player. Maybe after not agreeing with this move, and not agreeing with his shootout lineup against Detroit, I might have to trade in my "yes man" card! I think it is absurd to claim double standards, and bad messages sent to the team and any other ridiculous drama over taking a rookie defenseman out of the lineup for a game and inserting another player. In my opinion it all stems from two things. One I will withhold, and the other a lack of respect for Hakstol from a lot of people on this board that is undeserved.

gudas got benched for most of the 3rd period vs. ariozona after rinaldo tied the game early in the 3rd. that's the only time i'm aware of, but it may have happened more than just this once. |

The thing that really frustrates me is when they try and say Hagg hasn't shown much he and Amac have been bogged down in a shutdown role all season both have a 60% d zone start while the rest of the defense is between 45-52% |

I'm with you. Hagg hasn't broken in as a rookie with sheltered ice time. He's done a lot of heavy lifting for this team as a rookie and that needs to be taken into consideration.

I don’t disrespect Hak, you can back read and see I support most of what he does. Personal is direct comments and comments that are rude or condescending, if we want respect we probably need to show it. |
