Changing the subject for a moment...

What do you think about swapping Horn and Kessel around?

- Rinosaur

I don’t hate it. Malkin and Kessel are fire together. Spreading Crosby, Malkin, and Kessel out to three lines is ideal but right now the Brassard unit isn’t doing anything. If Sully put Rust on that line then I’m down to keep them all separated because I thought Rust-Brassard-Kessel was fantastic, but besides that outing they haven’t shown any chemistry together.

Brassard is a 2C. He’s good enough to be the third line power house by himself. He doesn’t need Phil to make that third line as effective as HBK was, he just needs linemates he has chemistry with. If him and Horny found something together than it could be the best of all worlds. Put Malkin and Phil together for the biggest powerhouse line we’ve had these past two seasons, have a massive mismatch in the third unit, and hope that Crosby finally gets chemistry with someone.

His career is done. Why are we still talking about him?

Agreed.

Personally, there’s something about Brass and Horn’s game that seem complimentary to me.

.......patiently waiting to be impressed by Brassard........
- YouMeAndDupuis9

3 assists in last 3 games, plays about 15 minutes a game, very little PP time. I know many are "waiting" but I've been impressed with him already...

He is very good in tight spaces/corners having the ability to chip the puck to himself from what I've watched

He’s clearly a good player. I don’t think anyone’s arguing that. We just expected more out the Brassard-Phil pairing than we’ve seen. They’ve been buried in their own zone a lot which is pretty disappointing considering what HBK did when Brassard is leagues better than Bonino.

It doesn’t take stats to see that they don’t have a lot of sustained offensive possessions. They’re constantly disjointed to defensive zone breakouts and get stopped in the neutral zone.

If they put Hornqvist with Brassard, I'd try Phil with Sid. No need to switch up what Malkin is doing right now, just use Rust there.

If he really is a 2nd line center he should be able to elevate a 3rd line with Sheary and Rust. Put Phil with Sid and make our first a powerhouse.

Different roles in a different system. It’s gonna take a little time. He’s been getting progressively better and more comfortable.

Patience.

Hossa didn’t even take off with this team until the playoffs.

I'd probably put Kessel with Malkin and Hornie back up with Sid. Go with something proven. For what it's worth, I've always felt Kessel and Malkin should play together.

I think our wing problems comes down to Sheary and Jake underperforming for long stretches. Those two guys are having a tough time in tight checking games. They're just not strong enough to play through it and they have a tough time getting near the net.

We talk about this all the time, but Sprong isn't a small guy. He's a pretty strong guy that can handle some of that. Classic case of cutting of their nose to spite their face. He should be up here.

5:08: In case anyone was wondering how much Sullivan values Aston-Reese, his response when asked if he expects to have Aston-Reese back for the playoffs spoke volumes. He didn’t address the medical aspect, but he made abundantly clear that he’ll play when ready: “Zach’s a guy we’re excited about getting healthy because we think he can help us win. He’s a good 200-foot player. We can utilize him in a lot of situations. We thought he was really improving with each game that he played. It was unfortunate that he got hurt when he did because we thought his game was really coming. So we’ll make decisions accordingly when he’s healthy, but he’s a guy we’re excited about.”

Building his confidence. That's the Sully we know & love.

I wonder what Sprong thinks looking at that?
