Yes, Taveras is a really good player. I don't agree with you that signing Taveras is the right move for the Flyers. - MJL
I am fine with that. |

Tavares can't get more than 7 years from a team other than the Islanders. Also, he isn't leaving the Islanders |

Agree with this 100 pct. Totally understand that Hakstol was playing the percentages and that Giroux has had very little success in shootouts in recent years (7 for his last 39, 0 for 6 this year). But with the game on the line, I want the puck on Giroux's stick every time. If you fail with your best player, so be it. - bmeltzer

He will probably stay with the Islanders. Depends on how much he believes in Snow. |

Maybe, maybe not. The Isles stink and seem to lack direction. IMO, Snow should be fired. He may decide to stay, but I wouldn’t be the slightest bit shocked if he decided to move on. |

I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if he leaves. That franchise is the Islanders after all. No one says there long term.
Hell, he could go to a better run franchise in the Rags and not even have to leave town. |

I agree. Snow has done a lousy job over the last two years specifically. It might take Snow getting fired for him to stay. Will be an interesting story line. |

Can we agree that Tavares is a really talented player?
Depending upon the young player they are 1-5 years away from getting paid. Provorov is the only one that will get a huge contract. Tough decisions would have to be made eventually but the Flyers would have no problem fitting his contract.
Also, will any of Frost, Patrick or Coots be as good as Tavares at any point in there career? Probably not. This team would be a cup favorite within a year if Tavares was added. - mickel25
Yes Tavares is really good. But his career average for points is right around 70-75 aka what coots is doing this year. Coots is signed to a team friendly deal. Coots is a better defensive center. Tavares is a better offensive center. I'm not ready to say that Tavares is an much better than coots I would say they are a lot closer than people may think especially if coots can continue to build off this season.
Frost has the potential to be better than Tavares in my opinion. Who knows if that will ever come true.
Patrick has the potential to be a highly similar center to Tavares in my opinion. Who knows if that will ever come true.
Frost/Patrick and Coots are much more affordable players with the potential of matching or being better than Tavares. Key word potential. It will be up to the player, organization, coaches, etc to deliver on that potential.
I also do not think Tavares makes us instant cup contenders. A true #1 goaltender and development of our defensive prospects in the NHL and lower levels will make us a contender. Without that Tavres makes us 5 wins better. |

I was surprised goalie interference wasn't challenged after Detroit's 3rd goal. The replays (especially the over head one) shows the Red Wings players' stick spin Mrazk around. That's how he was so out of position and had to scramble. The announcer, albeit Red Wings announcer, didn't even mention it. - kennygarcon
After the game when Mrazek was asked about what he said to Hakstol after being pulled he had he questioned Hakstol whether it was goalie interference |

A team can trade for his rights before July 1, can they not? In that case wouldn't they then be able to re-sign him to an 8 year deal?

7 Years 8 Years honestly it doesn't matter Tavares is getting maxed on years and close to a max on salary if not max. No bueno for flyers salary cap moving forward. |
