if this is the evolution we are seeing from Sanheim right now, the top 4 suddenly looks very formidable. Cant wait to see if it continues. |

In the short, Really need gudas to play better hockey.
Agreed on sanheim
Ian cole looks real good with blue jackets. Only if...
We traded gudas and picked cole up. I mentioned it then but easy to say from here |

I was surprised goalie interference wasn't challenged after Detroit's 3rd goal. The replays (especially the over head one) shows the Red Wings players' stick spin Mrazk around. That's how he was so out of position and had to scramble. The announcer, albeit Red Wings announcer, didn't even mention it. - kennygarcon
There wasn't any goaltender interference on that play. Contact was incidental and Mrazek had plenty of time to reset and play his position before the goal.

What do you think we could get for Gudas in the off season? Anything? With Hagg playing a physical game and hopefully Morin making the team next season I can see Gudas making an exit but with a few years left it might be tough. |

I point you to the Edmonton Oilers. It is Chia after all. |

It's more important to let Manning walk so Hak can't dress him imo. But if they want to replace Gudas with a FA or something on top of losing Manning that's fine too. You know there's no way Hextall goes into camp with Gudas and Manning both gone penciling kids into 6 and 7 spots though. (And obviously a kid shouldn't be the 7) |

I would love for the Flyers to get Tavares.
Tavares
Patrick
Coots
Laughton
That is best set of 4 centers in the league. Young and still pretty cheap even with Tavares' contract. |

If the price is right I would have no issue bringing back Manning as a 6/7 depth defenseman. Manning may want to go to a team where he has more of a chance to be an every day player. |

With Frost in the pipeline, I would not get into a 7 or 8 year deal for 10M or so a year for Taveras. |

Honestly not that far fetched. They will have the cap space over the next 5 years. They have drafted really well and I do not see that trend changing. Cheap wingers and goalies to fill the roster over the next couple of years. Provorov is really the only huge contract that will come up in the next two years or so.
MacDonald, Gudas, Simmonds, Lehtera, Filppula, Read will all be off the books within 1-2 seasons. That's close to $25mil in cap space. Ghost and Coots are locked up at way below market value. Probably saved close to $6mil in cap space between the two of them. |

I think of the current flyers, AHL and prospects and I can see the future after G and Jake. You can see in next 2 years also.
They just have so many potentials and kids who are already legit. All that and cap is in good shape and they can use trades etc.
Get in this year play well |

I would. They would have essentially three number 1 centers. |

So if they already have essentially two #1 centers in Patrick and Couturier, and they have Frost who has the potential to also be a #1 center, how does it make sense to get into such a big free agent contract with Taveras? At some point all of the good young players are going to have to be paid.

Florida and Columbus are making the playoffs this year. That final wild card spot is a battle between us and New Jersey.
8 game to go boys. Have to be in playoff mode from here on out. I'll be there in Dallas next Tuesday with my kids rooting on the good guys! |

The Flyers aren't more of a lock to make the playoffs than Florida is? Florida has no chance to get into the top 3 of their division.

Makes 0 sense. If he leaves Islanders he will be getting 12/13+ per year for 8+ years. In that time frame we will still have contacts for G and Jake on the books we will have to pay Sanheim, Provy, Patrick, TK, Morin, Hagg, Laughton, Lindblom, and Hart. Not to mention re-signing coots gost towards the tail end of that. And that's just a few. Yes some will get bridge deals and or team favorable deals but they wont all be making 950k for the next 8 years. You absolutely handicap this team. It also makes 0 sense when our centers is probably the strongest part of our team / farm system a long with defense. If anything we have no true 40 goal sniper - not that that's a requirement - but that's what we would need. I don't sign any free agent over 5 million a year to over 2 years at this point it's irresponsible cap management and frankly unnecessary.
As far as Gudas goes he's still relatively young, brings a physical presence and is a right handed defenseman. With how inflated the cost of defenseman are I think at bare minimum a third rounder but potentially a mid 2nd rounder is possible. Teams will look to allow him to get some his snarl back and get him back to how he played prior to this season. I don't think you see this team without 2 vets next year and I would bet they prefer at least one right handed defenseman. Whether it's gudas or somebody else remains to be seen. |

Can we agree that Tavares is a really talented player?
Depending upon the young player they are 1-5 years away from getting paid. Provorov is the only one that will get a huge contract. Tough decisions would have to be made eventually but the Flyers would have no problem fitting his contract.
Also, will any of Frost, Patrick or Coots be as good as Tavares at any point in there career? Probably not. This team would be a cup favorite within a year if Tavares was added. |

In my opinion, you're 100% correct on Taveras. Doesn't make sense for the Flyers to do that. As far as defenseman is concerned, I think this off season they will view both Provorov and Gostisbehere as veterans. Sanheim and MacDonald as the 2nd pair, and hopefully Morin can play with Haag on the 3rd pair. If Manning will come back for the right cost, he can be the 7th.

Agree with this 100 pct. Totally understand that Hakstol was playing the percentages and that Giroux has had very little success in shootouts in recent years (7 for his last 39, 0 for 6 this year). But with the game on the line, I want the puck on Giroux's stick every time. If you fail with your best player, so be it. - bmeltzer
Considering how skilled G is and how many insane moves he used earlier in his career, 7 of 39 is staggering |

Yes, Taveras is a really good player. I don't agree with you that signing Taveras is the right move for the Flyers.
