Yeah I put the disclaimer that I don't see a need for the defenseman but if the Flyers brass insisted they all fit the bill. I really like Backlund and he's young enough at age 29 that even if he gets 2-3 years it wont kill us. The other free agent centers on the market I don't find as much of upgrades on Filpula or a Vorobyov/Vecchione
- Tfaehner

Backlund is not a free agent. He signed a six year deal worth 5mil per season in Feb. I was hoping he was going to hit UFA. He would have been the only FA I would have been interested in.

What aggravates me most is that the players/coaches on this team all must realize they have the ability to compete with the top teams in the conference, but still choose to still take games off.

Admitting not to be prepared against Columbus or Detroit this late in the year with so much at stake, is simply mind boggling to me.

That, and it's still snowing.

from carchidi: Neuvirth looked sharp Wednesday, and his teammates tapped the ice with their sticks to show their appreciation after he made a diving save to deny Dale Weise during two-on-nothing drills.

just as i suspected. at least weise got the shot on goal, so that's progress.

Show me specifically what I said and how that is not consistent with what I said earlier.

OTOH, Weise was also stopped by 2 mites on ice goalies after practice

It is perplexing. This team isn't good enough to take any team lightly. The second period last night was embarrassing. Should've been two points in the bucket.

it is mind boggling. and yet, i feel like this unprepared to play at key moments an ill that has plagued the flyers for some time now, going back several coaches. that is not letting hak off the hook. it's just a trend. like their horrendous god (frank)ing awful shootout record since day 1.

Bergeron is their captain and best player, like Giroux. He is not one of their best shootout scorers, like Giroux.

Wrong. The player needs to be on the team's reserve list at the trade deadline in order to be eligible for an 8 year deal.

Article 50.8 Prohibited SPC Terms and Practices, (b), (iv)

An SPC with a term of greater than seven (7) years, provided, however,
that a Club may sign a Player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8)
years if that Player was on such Club's Reserve List as of and since the
most recent Trade Deadline. With respect to potential Unrestricted Free
Agents only, the ability to re-sign a Player to an SPC of eight (8) years
expires when the Player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent.

In my opinion, Hakstol is not on the hook for that. I put it on the players and the veteran leaders. The Flyers top players took over the game in the 3rd period. The question I have is why couldn't they do it in the first or second period?

i put it more on the players, always do, in these situations, but i do think the coaches share some of this.

There is the old adage that the coach is ultimately held responsible. I just wonder how Hakstol prepared the team differently for the Red Wings game then he did for the recent Caps game where the team came out ready to play and carried the play for the majority of the game. We have no real way of knowing but I'm willing to bet that they prepare the team for each and every game pretty much the same and don't minimize the importance of one game over another.
