it's possible in the same way that me becoming the hottest female super model over night is possible.

it could happen, but it is not going to

- Mordecai

It wasn't about the probability of it happening it was about disputing the statement made that another team CAN't sign Taveras to an 8 year deal, and you know that. Why are you like this?

how about we revise the statement to no one else can sign him to an 8 year deal until they trade for his rights and sign him before 7/1 and call it a day

Probability matters when you say "Any other team can sign Tavares for 8 years". You can't just say that and then say "i win". Other teams can sign him IF a very specific, unlikely scenario takes place.

Again, when was the last time a player like Tavares ever had their rights traded then signed with the team that aquired them?

It matters.

Let's start debating the top 93 players of the 2019 draft so we can see what we could potentially get with the pick from Marody instead.. I figure that will be more entertaining at this point

Then we can't get in an argument. Takes two to tango, yet the same person keeps dancing.

If I'm the rangers I would do it.

If I am another team, I would gladly forego the additional year on that contract

Not that it matters but there have been reports Toronto has already reached out to the Isles to do just that if the Isles feel like they aren't getting anywhere on an extension
with him.

You know what else matters? Accuracy. You put a statement in quotes trying to attribute something that I said and you're wrong again.

Here is exactly what I said

"A team can trade for his rights before July 1, can they not? In that case wouldn't they then be able to re-sign him to an 8 year deal?

Whether it has happened before or whether I provide an example is completely irrelevant.

It's admirable that you're trying to desperately stick up for your buddy but he was wrong, and so are you.

Trade makes sense. At the NHL level he’s likely a 4th liner at best and there are quite a few forward prospects in the system with more upside. I’d rather have the 3rd, at least with the pick you have a chance, however slim, of landing a much better player and a good chance of landing a comparable player at worst.

Not blaming either side at this point but my comment about 8year+ 12mil+ was to just emphasize the fact that he's getting PAID if he leaves the isles and I have no interest in being the team that pays him.

I have thrown out a few new topics I would hope we can move on to including neuvy looking good in practice (better than mrazek as some describe), the marody trade, and let's even add the blues actually being close to being back in the playoffs as another.
