Agreed with JT thing.
A little different with Sundin.
It was d!ck move on his part. He said he wouldnt accept a trade at the deadline cause he didnt want start with a team mid season.
A season later, he signs with Vancouver in January. - Fakepartofme
real reason he refused to be traded: already had his early may fishing trip booked

most semi smart players would say the same. no point causing any drama and saying you are considering signing elsewhere even if you are.
remember when sundin didnt want to play anywhere other than toronto and then signed in vancouver half a year later lol. - daeth
Because Burke told Sundin that he wasn't gonna sign him. He was gonna sign with the Leafs but Burke said no. So Sundin went somewhere to try and win a Cup.
Sundin's only mistake was choosing a poop team that had no chance of winning.

The re-imagining of Sundin's words and his motives, after the fact, is (frank)ing ridiculous.
Burke flatout said that he told Sundin he wasn't gonna sign him. That's a fact. - GreatGigInTheSky
either way i don't think it changes much.
sundin refused to be traded because he said something like he didn't want to join a team mid-way through a season and wanted to be part of a winning team in toronto.
then he joins another team mid-way through a season the following year.
it's kind of funny now. it does show that players can be pretty good politicians though. they often say what they think should be said rather than what they're really thinking. can't blame them.

He was going to join Toronto midway through the year. He wouldn't have been a rental, per se. He'd be joining his own team. And when he told the Leafs about his intention of coming back, Burke said no.
So since he was already keen on playing one more (half)season he signed somewhere else, seeing as how he was told no by his team of choice.
Oh man..Bo Jackson I collected so many Bo cards when I was a kid
I have watched his 30 for 30 a bunch of times. One of my Fav. He seems like a pretty normal guy who was really the biggest sports star of the 90s. He was so good
NFL Blitz was better. Nothing like tombstoning an opponent 12 seconds after the play is over and then doing it again 3 more times in succession. - markmark
I guess...not sure I played it very much or at all.

Actually the Leafs, Rangers and Canucks all offered Sundin a contract in the off season.....he held off cause he was thinking about retirement.
Once we decided he was coming back....he decided to choose between Canucks and Rangers.
