Quick question to pick up the pace of a real boring morning so far.

Who would you guys rather play in the first round?

Boston or Tampa?

Awhile ago I would've said Boston, without question. But lately I'm starting to lean more towards Tampa.

Mainly cause Boston happens to be as much of an offensive threat as Tampa, but Boston is much better defensively (when looking at stats). And a goaltender with playoff experience.

Vasilevskiy has no experience whatsoever and hasn't been remotely close to how good he started the year

Which makes me think maybe Tampa could actually be the better matchup for us

just based on regular season success i'd rather toronto faced boston. also they appear to maybe be running into injury issues. still would be a difficult matchup with boston still being the favourite but yeah.

bergeron can only shut down one line at least and toronto has 2-3 lines that can produce similarly.

Nah, Tampa has bigger game breakers in Stamkos and Kucherov. Boston is older, and has key players injured right now which could help in a long playoff matchup. Neither is an ideal matchup, and it shows the utter stupidity in how the NHL playoff format is.

This is exactly why the Sens got to the Easter Conference Final last year. Some team is going to game a lame easy road, while the better teams have a harder road.

I'm not going to argue who Toronto would be be better off facing, but let's stop this Boston is old nonsense. That is simply not true. Our average age is younger than that of the Leafs and we just signed a 21yo.

I understand a few players skew it on the Leafs, but still, we've had 8 rookies score their first goals and are second in the league in goals by rookies.

When saying "old" most refer to the core of the Bruins roster... Chara(41 yrs old) Rask(30 yrs old) Bergeron(32 yrs old) Brad Douchehand(29 yrs old) Backes(33 yrs old) and adding a 33 yr old Rick Nash doesn't make you younger..

Outside of that, Heinen, Pastrnak, Carlo, McAvoy and Krug are all young and good..

And are we really going to start calling 29 old? That seems to be a stretch in my opinion. Every team is going to have players in that department it's just a matter of rotating in younger talent to complement that. Our young players are nothing to sneeze at so there's not much reason to overly weight out "older" players.

Tampa because the Leafs can force them to run and gun. Bruins structure might frustrate the Leafs in a long series.

Either way, it'll be hard.

Like I said, the scoring produced by our young players should prove that they can play without that core, because well they have done so and are doing so now. There is no reason to just look at our big names and go oh they're 31 now so that team is going to suck in a few years let's count their age more than their younger players because they're more important by a country mile.

You're thoroughly mistaken if you believe that about the Bruins.

top 2 forwards in boston are 32 and 29 years old. chara is old.

toronto's old guys are all depth players basically. hainsey, marleau, bozak, pololak.

doesn't really matter what the overall age of either team is, there's no doubt toronto's core is younger.

Boston, because button says Tampa would be an easier match up. You have to take the opposite of whatever button says.

Im sorry im not into average team ages when looking at a full team, to me that isnt a good indicator. Look at the core players, thats all the matters for averages really. Not bit parts.

Core Players Boston

Bergeron - 32
Marchand - 29
Chara - 41
Rask - 31
Patrnak - 21
McAvoy - 20
Backes - 33
Krejci - 31

Average age - 29.75

Core Players Leafs

Matthews - 20
Marner - 20
Nylander - 21
Kadri - 27
JVR - 28
Reilly - 24
Gardiner - 27
Anderson - 28

Avereage age - 24.375

I mean you could debate who is in the core, but I think this is pretty close. You could argue Debrusk, Dermott, Hyman, Brown, Marleau/Nash, Krug. This would still have the Leafs core way lower in the age bracket.

Fact is Bruins core is definitely older, there is no doubt about that, and they have had injuries this year. Again, no good matchup, the Bruins are a good team period.

I've already addressed this above. You are underestimating Boston's young players. Look at how this team is doing this year versus last year with the core?

Hmmm...I wonder what changed?

When you compare Bostons core to other playoff teams. There is no doubt they are the older team
