looks like Tampa not putting McDonagh on powerplay at all, him and Girardi their top pairing killing penalties. Over 5 minutes apiece killing penalties yesterday

Hedman and Sergachev getting most of the powerplay time

- jimbo83

which is actually pretty smart

Saves a lot of ice time for most of them, that's gonna be big for them down the stretch.

Having Hedman just makes utilizing McDonagh correctly so much easier

On this date in 1994, #NYR traded Tony Amonte and the rights to Matt Oates to #Blackhawks for Stephane Matteau and Brian Noonan.

I was just saying to somebody, Keenan HATED Amonte. HATED HIM.

People think AV "mistreats" young players? that's baby stuff compared to Keenan/Amonte

edit: wait a sec, is that you I am talking too?

They understand something the rangers didn't. McD is a solid NHL defensemen. He is not a great offensive defensemen, hes average to maybe a hair above average / solid. He adds much more value as a defensive defensmen shutting guys down.

Depending who sticks, going to have an abundance of dman who can play the point on the PP next year. Shatty, Skjei, Pionk, DeAngelo, Gilmour

I really hope Skjei takes the next step next year

definitely a sophmore slump year for him, but I don't think that's uncommon for young defensemen

Yeah, a bit surprised how bad he has been this year. Can't imagine that last year was a fluke. I think he is going to be better next year.

Going to be a lot of competition though in camp. Figure Skjei, Shatty and Staal are most likely going to be locks. I would throw Pionk in there too. Kid has been fantastic.

I mean the team has been a dumpster fire around him. Hard to ask a 2nd year guy to be the guy, especially on defense when he isn't getting much help.

He def hasn't been great but I am willing to throw away this year and see what he has next year with hopefully some better talent around him.

Im not sold on Gilmour yet, he looked good when he first came up but haven’t been to impressed lately. Pionk looks great though.

Gilmour is an outstanding skater and got a great shot, but I'd say he needs a year in Hartford...

Yeah thats why I listed him last. Fantastic shot and skating, but needs work on the defensive side of things.
