Here's an idea: what if every NHL game that ended in a tie after 5 minutes of OT went to a shootout, but winning the shootout didn't get you an extra point, it was used as a playoff tiebreaker? Kind of the exact opposite of what it is now?

It will never happen, but I'd prefer that over the current system.

I wish they’d just trash the shootout, I hate it. Increase OT to 8 minutes and if it’s still tied, then both teams get a point and you move on.

I agree, or at least go to a 3-2-1-0 system. But they won't do either, so I was just throwing a hypothetical out there.

So the game ends in a tie and the shootout "win" is kept track of in case a tie breaker is needed when determining which teams get in the playoffs?

I don't mind ties, and that is why Brodeur's record will always be bullpoop.

Then they should have called him up to play 15-16 minutes in January. He would have been just as good then as he is now.
- Feanor

Speculation on your part and certainly not a fact. Lindblom is a good player and I believe he belongs in the NHL right now but you can still see areas where more AHL time could help him. The Flyers are trying to maximize players and get them to be the best players they can be. Overcooking is always better than rushing.

In my opinion both Hextall and Hakstol have done a strong job developing the young players.

Lethera comes in but I like weal, Laughton and read. I don’t think Leif brings much of anything this time of the year

Flip had a good game, 2nd not so bad game in a row, Simmonds just scored 2, you can’t leave tk there

G coots tk
Lindbolm Patrick jake
Simmonds Flip
Read Laughton

Lethera and weal plug and play. I think it ends up weal with Flip and Simmonds

Hate the shootout. Hated it then, hate it now.

Wish it was the way it was, with ties. That system was fine. It wasn't complicated. Too many young people/television who didn't understand the sport wanted "measurable outcomes," which is never a good reason to change a system that wasn't broken

Imagine it, this team drafted two possible top 3 centers in the SAME draft. I wonder how often that happens?

Seems pretty certain they have a replacement for G, which they needed. I look forward to the day it is Patrick, TK, Frost, lindbolm, COOTS filling the first 2 lines and having G and Jake on the 3rd line

Right now Manning is the team's 7th defenseman. I would agree that Sanheim was not ready earlier in the season but based overall on the four games he just played, he is now, and the player who played yesterday against the Caps is a better player than Manning is. There are plenty of minutes available for a good young 2 way puck moving defenseman.

4 Games didn't prove Sanheim could play in this league, he should've been in the lineup all year long.

Disagree. The 4 games since his recall have shown that he has improved for whatever reason since he was sent down. When he was with the team previously, he was outplayed by Manning and was not one of the 6 best defenseman on the team.

He was adjusting...it doesn't happen overnight. Not everyone gets to join the league running the point on one of the best power plays in the league. Maybe you think he was getting manhandled. He definitely didn't go to the AHL for 2 months to put on muscle. If he was not ready, he would not have been here. Hextall might as well have that tattooed on his forehead

I also never claimed to know more about the situation than the team...just more than people that don't watch Phantoms games. You clearly value "confidence" more than I do. That is fine. I feel differently. I think playing a string of good games at the NHL level would give him more confidence to compete in the NHL than a league he has already dominated, but who knows? Either way I know Sanheim with 60+ games experience is better than Sanheim with 40 games of experience and I doubt they are anywhere different in the standings.

He is back and is adding exactly what the defense needed him to add. Can only be happy about that

We'll agree to disagree then because we'll go in circles for hours and I'll feel less intelligent by the end.

There was nothing wrong with his confidence in December. He played well and so did the team.

This is the same management group that left Lindblom in the AHL all the way until late February and only brought him up when Simmonds got hurt. Are we really supposed to believe that he was ready in February, but not the previous month when they called up Goulbourne (who Hextall insisted was not just a 5-6 minute player) to play 5-6 minutes per game?

- Feanor

We just need to give all the credit to Dave Hakstol's incredible player development formula. He has it all figured out

He's a bust, trade him while he still has some value.
- jmatchett383

For his age and PPG, that puts him in line with Robby Fabbri, Christian Dvorak, and..... Travis Konecny.

I sure wouldn't mind having 2 TK's on this team.

I gave up on the other thread because your points were so obtuse it made me sick.
