Man we suck! Fine with starting Lyon next game as we can't do worse. Really hoping we can turn this around and make the playoffs. To collapse like this and just miss is not good on any front. - Hextall271
I thought Lyon played well last night, but my goodness he needs to stop overplaying shots!! He almost paid the price for it again last night. |

But it's not just Filppula. Simmonds hasn't done much at 5 on 5. That whole line has been meh. Mainly that line has too many failed clears and can't get out of the zone cleanly. - J35Bacher
I would of been fine if they moved Simmonds along with Schenn at the draft last year. I really hope they do move him this season, he will not be worth what the market will pay him on his next contract |

First time posting, but I've followed this board for years. Here's my two cents:
The biggest issue with this team right now is their D. With the exception of Provy and Ghost, there isn't much in the way of talent, and most create too many turnovers when they could have taken an easier route out of the zone.
AMac works hard and has had some good games. He seems to be well respected by his teammates and coaching staff, and is a veteran presence that this young team can use.
Gudas has clearly lost his game and is too much of a liability out there these days. I'm hoping he can turn his game around next season, but I wouldn't mind if he was dealt.
I do not understand how Manning gets into this, or any other NHL lineup. Yes he can score, but he commits way too much for a NHL defenseman. His play in his own zone is terribly inconsistent. You can't always expect your D partner and forwards to come save your ass while committing too much in the offensive zone, or while in three to four man puck battles on the boards.
Sanheim and Hagg will be solid with a couple of years experience under their belts, but they obviously still have a lot of work to do.
I wouldn't mind if the Flyers traded Simmons in the off season to bring in a defenceman that can contribute without being a liability. We don't necessarily need another Pronger (although I wish he was still around), just someone that is sound defensively, and can get a solid pass up the ice.
You can't blame our goaltending for our troubles this season. All three have played well enough to win a lot more games than we have. Mrazek was left to fend for himself last night, and that sucks.
The defensive zone breakdowns are clearly killing us. Our forwards spend too much time trying to make up for these breakdowns. I'm not saying I'm completely happy with our forward group, but it's hard to condemn them when they have to help out the defense so much. That being said, our bottom six obviously needs an upgrade in the offseason. |

Save % with Philly is .887. Pretty bad, but look who he has playing in front of him lately. |

.887 is bottom of the league non competitive trash. Somehow it was .910 with that defensive Red Wings juggernaut playing in front of him. |

Saw Lyon play in boston, he was solid. Mostly because he wasn't flopping around but was in position and calmly controlling rebounds. I was impressed, and he just has to play that quiet game. I'm starting to see why mrazek was expendable in Detroit. Very inconsistent. |

He's the type of guy where they could win back-to-back Cups and he'd still point out and obsess over the smallest of flaws.
I think this team still isn't where the need to be, and their recent play has been, well, pretty horrible. But I also think that the future looks promising, just not in the next month. |

can't really disagree with anything you said....although Mrazek really hasn't come up with the saves when he's needed to. Agreed their d zone coverage has really been the issue all year. Of late the Forwards seem to want to pass the puck to the tough area's instead of taking the puck there....the turnovers are happening every shift.
for this team to turn this around...everyone has to be better...coaches and players because right now they are getting exactly what they deserve. |

I can see it now.... When they choke away a playoff spot, which they had an 11 point lead, we are going to hear the bubble team/future is bright horsepoop.

They are also IN trouble because of Filppula this season as well though - corduroy
Filp was stronger earlier in the season but has faded the last 40 games or so. I have been on board with a lot of what Hextall has done as GM and it is easier to judge in hindsight but I really hope this is the last of Filppula we see in a Flyer uniform.
to many guys have struggled down the stretch....Guys like G, Vorecek, Ghost and Coot's have really been outstanding this year and carried them for the most part....disappointing some of the others haven't been able do their part.
