Again Captain Obvious-

I said they need something to shake it up and break them out of their funk. Can you argue that the Gudas/manning pair has been the most challenged in the last 2 months? Of course not. This being a message board, I figured I put something out there we could discuss that at least had merit. I am sure we both agree there is no upgrade. The difference is marginal at best but it is marginal. I'll take the vet who has a cup and roll the dice.

Oduya is a 7th D and Manning? Yup really a 7th D

FYI- a 7th D is not just for injuries it is also for when they need to change up the D

- wcorvette

I'm fully aware of what you said. I'll make it as obvious as I can. Adding Oduya to the lineup with the reasoning that it could shake them out of their funk is not well thought out. We are discussing it.

FYI, when a GM brings in a player and states he was brought in to be the 7th defenseman that is the same as saying that he is not expected to play unless he has to. Ultimately that is up to the coach though.

My solution wouldn't be Oduya but I would break up that pairing.

Sanheim Gudas
Manning MacDonald

That being said, Sanheim is still playing jittery. Getting real tired about hearing how unlucky he is when his mistakes end up in the back of the net. I get he's a rookie and gets more leeway but if you're going to roast Manning under a microscope at least hold Sanheim somewhat accountable.

Hes had another opportunity to make himself a no brainer line up decision and again hasn't done it yet.

Manning has been a mistake machine in his own end since the new year. Sanheim has been in the press box and Lehigh Valley. I think Sanheim has been better then both Gudas and Manning the last few games....with that said, that’s not exactly setting the bar high. Very few Rookie D come in and play with confidence. In a perfect world Sanheim could come in and be a bottom pair d behind 5 solid guys....but the Flyers don’t have that luxury.

I haven't seen Oduya play outside of the Flyers game so I have no idea if the 2018 version of Oduya is better than Manning but i do believe the reason why Ottawa waived him was because they are out of the playoffs and they didn't want to pay his salary/bonuses due. Of course it could also be mentioned no one wanted to trade for him so they had to waive him to unload the contract

The overwhelming majority of his salary was already paid.

He was moved for $....Melnyk is a cheap (frank). They also wanted the last 20 games to give the kids on the back end a chance to play....why not?

agreed unless he has to, 1 win in 6, current D pair is swiss cheese, you are right that is not even close to has to.

Define with any kind of facts "well thought out"? Note my suggestion also included shaking up the lines, SHAKE UP...

No I dont thing just manning is enough to shake it up, we agree there.

You didn't offer any facts, you just offered an opinion. In my opinion suggesting to insert Oduya into the lineup to break the Flyers out of their funk based on the facts of why the Flyers are struggling, is poorly thought out.

Same here. I just disagree with your reasoning. No more, no less. If I thought he was a better player, I'd be all for it.

not better, I think Manning has the physical skills over him but the IQ is Oduya.

Oduya on a bad team with EK being -25 was 5g 5a 10 pts and
+1

my gut tells me if Manning was there he wouldnt have as good as stats as Oduya did.

If a players physical skills are shot, it doesn't matter what his hockey IQ is.

again, for being shot he had 5g n 5 a 10 pts and +1 on a terrible team, you drop Manning on that team and it goes from from just passable 6th-7th D to???

they are the stats from this year while he has no skills left

Answer please?

your opinion on how Manning would have done?

It's pure speculation and a waste of time. I have answered you multiple times. I cannot state it any simpler. I believe that Manning is a better player than Oduya is now. What is hard to understand about that?

nothing of course but the only facts we have is the play YTD, it is fair to consider the teams they played for, their stats and take an educated guess on they would have fared. let me give a little more data

Manning 6 g 10 a and 16 pts -2

Oduya 5 g 5 a 10 pts +1

Goal differential

Flyers -2 YTD
Sens -46 YTD

I get you believe Manning is better and you are welcome to that but the data at the very least tell a story that could very well make Oduya a better player so far this year

The real tragedy is that our 6thish D is even in the conversation with Oduya, someone you pretty called broken down.

What I think everyone would agree with? IF Manning was on the Sens his stats would be less than they are now. From what data I have, Oduya has played better than manning this year.

This is nothing serious, all of us are just speculating...

Just my opinion.

He's only in the conversation with Oduya because you brought him into it. You're not making a very sensible argument simply because you haven't even looked at all the numerous variables involved. None of the data that you have posted in anyway suggests that Oduya is better. He's simply not.

well by all means, drop the knowledge on me???

FYI- I didnt bring him in, the fact that Manning plays poorly and Oduya is next in line brings him into the conversation.

Plus, yeah it was my initial comment to suggest to replace Manning.

I think you know, or at least I would hope you would know all of the different variables involved. Then again based on the posts you made, maybe you don't actually know.
