The coach has them focus on point shots more than any other team in the league. It's no surprise that has led to three straight years of anemic 5 on 5 scoring.

Being near the top of that list has paid big dividends for the Wild and others. |

The Flyers should definitely move Simmonds. The question is on timing. I'd wager that his value would be highest at the draft, but I could see Hextall (mistakenly) waiting until the deadline to move him to see how the season plays out with Simmonds on the Flyers. - StepfordSam
Hextall is all about the future. I think Simmonds get moved at the draft. The only current players over 25 that will still be on this roster when this team is contending will be Giroux and Voracek |

no? because? - hammarby31
basically...age mostly. I wonder how he would hold up over an NHL season. His ability to score would standout here, but I question his ability to find space here. He is liek 34 right now I think?
I can't say he hasn't struck me as someone who cares most about putting up points, that could be a little unfair though. I thought the same thing about Radulov and he proved me wrong. I've seen quotes from guys like Brodeur who say Kovy is a good teammate and presence |

I think it all depends on return. There are a number of guys who could be on the market who might be undersold vs what hextall wants for simmer. Guys like pacioretty etc. I also think he had better value when he had an extra year on his deal now hes just another guy one last run before he gets paid. I'm hoping for a late 1st and solid prospect |

Looks like we have a low front coming in over the left and right faceoff circle with a decent amount of moisture. Could be a big storm. If the blue converges with the red at the blueline, we could get some thunder-snow out of this system. |

He’s big, still a good skater and very highly skilled. If he’s willing to sign a one or two year deal for a reasonable cap hit, I’d sign him right up.
That being said, he’ll likely want to sign with a contender so I very much doubt he’d even consider coming here. |

Yeah I noticed he still seemed very strong, especially his shot. I really don't watch the KHL too much |

The Wild have been a significantly better team than the Flyers over that span, and as far back as the lockout. I'm not sure how a fan of a team with two playoff series win this decade can afford to point fingers at Minnesota who also have two. |

He’d certainly be an upgrade to Filppula/Raffl/Weal/Lehterä/Weise/Read/

Kind of my point. Your singled-out stat, in isolation, doesn't tell much of a story.
But for fun I checked just this season only. Flyers are 13th, so I guess they're doing better at that this season. |

I really don't see why he would be interested in us. But I mean sure anybody who makes us better and is willing to take a 1 year deal is cool with me |

More great analysis of Hakstol's coaching from the guy who resolutely defended Hak playing Chris VandeVelde in 81 games last season. The same VdV who could not get a job in the NHL the very next season at the ripe old age of 30. Overplaying stiffs is not good coaching.
- Feanor
I’m not sure how anyone can argue that Hakstol has done a good job...they are a middle of the road team....just like last year....just like his first year. Has Hakstol been some what limited due to Hextalls decisions....yes he has. I’m not sure...today....that he deserves to be fired but if they don’t make the playoffs after building such a large lead then I don’t think that reflects well on the coach....how could it.....I remain on the fence with the coach, but in the end the NHL is about winning and if Hakstol can’t then it’s the GMs job to find some one that can. |

There was a pretty good stint there for a while (around the time when Ghost/Provy got put together) where I felt they were getting better quality shots. They were doing it earlier with 28-14-93 too.
I don't get too worked up over charts like that anymore or too many team stats because for a team like the Flyers, they're like two separate teams. They're a completely different team when Provy/Ghost are out there with the top two lines.
They're getting back to their lower quality chance ways right now. He was pointing to 5v5 btw, which makes them 25th. |
