a 30 goal difference?
Its safe to say, Matthews will miss 10 -15 games a season the rest of life.

Based only on one season of him having injuries.

He reminds me way too much of HonestHockey. Its not even their stance that gets people, it's the uncompromisable, definitive "I'm right you're wrong" stance that sets them off. I personally find blatant ignorance both pathetic and amusing. Mostly amusing. I try not to engage.
Even when he's right I find him annoying

I was always under the impression that HonestHockey and UG are one and the same no?

Oh I'm sure they already know what they're gonna do.

It's just fun to speculate I guess. It's not an easy one imo.

Don't use logic to end a debate.

We have to make random things up... as I keep saying, Price to the Islanders! E5

RDS reporting Dorion spent the last 2 games watching the Oilers in the hope of a Hoffman for RNH swap this summer.

Or a Karlsson for Draisatl.

At the risk of sounding like an old man, Komarov brings more to the table than offense.

I think JVR signs elsewhere after the Leafs sign Tavares
- TheMussel

That is just not realistic, Marleau has already screwed the cap space.

Or so we've been told.

They may be lower value in terms of evaluating whether or not a guy can score goals, but they are an indicator that you do more than just score goals - coach trusts you in a defensive role late in the game.

It shows you are a more complete player.

Which is particularly relevant to the evaluation of Marleau - his detractors say he floats around and scores goals - nothing else.

5 empty net goals says otherwise.

- Atomic Wedgie

Honestly, last year we would have killed for someone who would get an empty netter, and put the game away. It’s the reason so many games went to OT, and wound up as OTLs.

Getting an empty netter usually requires a controlled zone exit being a man down. It’s not that easy of a task.

they might get 10-15 goals from a marlie or whoever they give his old minutes to. that means it's not an instant minus 30 goals since the person replacing him will also score

matthews was pretty much on pace for 50+ goals until all his injuries started and his production dipped. that could help make up for the rest of the lost production

JVR is a lazy trashbag who cherrypicks goals in the crease.

Hard pass on a 6x6 contract for that bum

Matthews would be in the top 40 if not for the injuries.
If Marner and Nylander didnt have those long droughts, they'd be there too (ya I know, that could be said for many players lol)
I like the Marleau signing and agree his off ice mentoring will benefit the kids...but the 3rd year could screw the leafs cap wise. You cant ignore that.....unless the leafs win the cup next year...then we can ignore it all the 3rd year long!!!!

- Fakepartofme

but they are not, and we're still 42-22-7. This team doesn't rely on 1 player only.

It's not as natural for some to get in front of the net.

I don't remember it being one of Marleau's strenght over his career.

- Scabeh

They both score at about the same pace on the PP. JVR just gets a little more time this year. Even Uncle Leo looks good in front of the net the odd year *hides*

Marleau doesnt help it if the Leafs were to go after Tavares.
In order to get Tavares you cant re-sign JVR.

Id rather keep JVR over Marleau in that situation..but whatevs

I will say this, Chiarelli has the balls to move big players. Kessel, Seguin, Hall, Eberle, Wheeler, Hamilton.

He's moved a number of good to great players in his time. Wheeler gets excused because I think he traded him for Peverley and he helped them win a cup.

i'd pass on that term but not because he's a bum, and not without realizing that losing him will suck.
