If that's excluding Karlsson and Subban, I agree.

JVR is in his prime, Marleau is at the end of his road but some how, that 6 million is better spent on Marleau.

Yeah.

Right.

- Unholy_Goalie

You're straight knackers, bud.

Your entire argument for months has been that JVR is trash and the Leafs would be wise to not resign him. But now, because the Leafs signed Marleau, they can't resign JVR.

Phenomenal.

70 points <--- Worth 6.25 million
57 points
48 points
46 points
40 points (So far) <--- Not worth 6.25 million

Decline.

Did you?

Don't look at points, do you? "Great" two-way player my ass. He can skate but he's not killing penalties, throwing hits, blocking shots, winning FOs (practically refuses to play C even though Matthews is hurt) and he's nowhere near as good as you want to believe he is compared to his salary.

Marleau had his one and only 40 goal season at 30/31 and his seasons from 29-35 were some of his best years. But I'm not saying sign JVR until he's 39. I'm saying sign him at 29 instead of signing the 39 year old who makes too much and doesn't perform well enough to justify losing the 29 year old.

- Unholy_Goalie

It sounds like you want Patrice Bergeron to be a Leaf. Marleau is fine. The old man can still skate. He's done exactly what was expected of him. Babs trusts him. That's good enough for me. He puts his foot on the gas and plays a full sixty.

Wrong. The argument for trading JVR is because they already (frank)ed themselves with the Marleau signing and since they probably can't keep him without completely (frank)ing their cap situation up, it's better to trade him at the deadline rather than lose him for nothing.

I never said JVR was trash but you claiming I said something when I didn't is your MO after all. Good lucking finding the quote of that. JVR is far from perfect, but if the Leafs had to spend 6.25 million on either him or Marleau, it's an easy answer.

If you call somebody a "great two-way player", you're basically saying Bergeron.

6.25 million for 40 points is exactly what was expected? Somebody call Matthews and tell him he's worth 18.75 million.

Much like your MO is calling the vast many of people that call you on your bullpoop liars.

You're daft.

It's honestly hilariously pathetic. You and your stance.

I think it's also tied to how badly the contract is front end loaded which Marleau's contract definitely was.

Datsyuk went from 10 to 7 to 5.5.

Marleau goes 8 to 6 to 4.25.

I don't know if that qualifies like Weber's contract would go back to Nashville if he retires.

- Unholy_Goalie

Sigh, if Marleau cant keep up he'll go on ltir.

Give it up man, youve stated how much smarter you are then all the leafs staff ev ry day since youve been back...we get it.

Have some fun and see both sides to stuff for a few days.

With a made up injury? He's got one of the longest active iron man streaks in the NHL but if he sucks he'll just get hurt because it's convenient?

But that's not even the point. The point is, they decided to spend 6.25 million on a guy at the end of his career instead of keeping that money available to help retain a good player in his prime. If it's between JVR during his prime or Marleau at the end of his rope, the choice is easy; it's JVR. And if JVR walks, it'll be because Marleau was eating up the cap space we needed to keep him.

Do I want JVR signed for 7 or 8 years? No, but I'd like to know what teams out there are going to be throwing insane contracts (7+ AAV x 6+ years) at him because there aren't that many that I can see.

It's all about how high your Caresi stats are. Sure worked for Clarkson.

As you can see from the below charts, Nylander also has a very high Caresi rating, so he should be paid accordingly with a massive, bloated contract.

This is simply not true

Marleau was signed for 3 years

JVR will get 7 years, 6 years minimum at more AVV.

I wonder why he's posting on HB and not working in the NHL

He's probably turned down all the offers.

It's pretty hillarious how fans think they are smarter than GMs and management team. Cap friendly and HDbase pages only take you so far and in Ugs case......not far at all

70 points in 75 games last year. nylander was in the minors during pastas first two seasons so points per game is pretty unfair. over the last two seasons he's been a clear step above him and their pay should reflect that
- daeth

Past .715 ppg when he signed his deal.

Nylander .72 ppg right now.

It'll be close.
