so... let me get this straight
UG thinks Marleau signing was poor
Godfather Lou thinks it was good
Godfather kinda seems to know what he's doing - UG plays video games in Mama's basement while eating cheetos
hmmmmmmmmm....
I think Godfather Lou knows a little more.. .I vote for him! - BorjeFan4Ever

contracts for offensive players are usually based on points though right? more or less so anyway - daeth
yeah.. more or less..
Id say Pastranak was a bigger steal in the draft... But tbh idk if id take anyone drafted that year over either of them.
I think they're good comparables.. Hard to say how many pts they'd each have if they switched teams. |

I agree. Pasternak is the perfect benchmark for nylander imo. I see him getting very similar contract and not any more then Pasternak.
Marner is a little different. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets 500k to 1M more a year then nylander. |

Mitchy boy is probably my favorite player now.. I love sassy Matthews and its a hard call, but Marner just brings that youthful exuberance and more of an unorthodox style. |

Marleau is one year after this season, maybe 2 on that contract. Not a big deal.
Jvr is good. But I wouldn’t want to give him 7 years. He’ll be fine for the first couple years but I can see that contract turning into an anchor down the road. - bryant
I don't think it's a guarantee he gets a 7 year deal if the dollar amount is right, especially if the Leafs can offer him a chance to win in a few years, which he would have. The problem is cap space for the next two years and that's exactly what Marleau is eating up without providing the same results that JVR is providing in his prime.

JVR is in his prime, Marleau is at the end of his road but some how, that 6 million is better spent on Marleau.
Yeah.
Right.

Did you pass grade 2 math?
And yes, JVR is going to want a long term deal. He's 28, he would be a complete idiot to not cash in now when his value is high |

Points are points though.
Points and possession is how a forward gets paid now and days. Nylander will get less than Pasta. Unless of course the Leafs decide to go the 8 year route...then I have no clue who to compare him to. |

Huh? Age does not matter.
Marleau is playing great at his age
If JVR can play like Marleau at his age than he deserves to get paid too. We won't see that for years so come back to me then |

you assume... we don't know..
Maybe he gets the same. Either way it would be a fair signing. |

Marleau is playing great at his age
He's playing like poop for 6.25 million though. 23 goals (5 empty netters) and 40 points. He's been in decline every single (frank)ing year the past four years. Or is he going to score 30 goals and 60 points next year because of hopes and dreams?
If JVR can play like Marleau at his age than he deserves to get paid too. We won't see that for years so come back to me then
So Marleau has been great at 38/39/40 but JVR will be poop from 29-35. Great theory. |

Very good defensively considering his age too. He just needs to continue adding weight and getting stronger on his skates and cut down the giveaways but that will come with age and time. |

If Lou is the one signing it I highly doubt it
He made sure Marner didn't even get bonuses from what I read
He's not going to give in to a 20 year old, and if Nylander is the type of player to want to cry and sit out like Trouba, Lou will send him out of a good saturation on TO for a d man.
I find it crazy how RFA's think they have all this leverage all of a sudden

I think the conversation is getting clouded up with arguing over which is better, who has more ppg.... at the end of the day, they are both young guys that have put up somewhat similar numbers, so using Pasta as a benchmark for Nylander's new deal is simply logical.
Maybe Pasternak has achieved a bit more. Whatever. It gives us a ballpark figure. Willy will probably get something similar, maybe slightly less. Or maybe Lou will work some magic and Willy will take a ridiculous discount, who knows. |

19 goals
25 goals
27 goals
Last three years
Once again.............................did you pass grade 2 math?
And he's a great two way player. I don't just look at goals. Marleau has been a great add, the majority of the fan base would agree with me. I could care less if you do, your credibility grows less each post for me imo
And when did I say that?? We don't know how JVR will play when he's Marleaus age. Just like how SJ didn't know how Marleau would play at 39 when he was 28. Maybe that's why SJ didn't give him a 12 year deal at the time? Jesus |

I don't think there will be a Trouba sitch..
They have a number assigned to him based on how much they think he means to the future of this team. Gotta remember that the cap is going to skyrocket over the next few years, especially when Seattle comes and if Vegas goes deep in the playoffs. |

I don't think there will be either.
I'm just saying, Lou dosnt care what other teams give there RFA's. He's going to sign them to what he would pay them, regardless of what another team does.
If you paid attention to how Lous managed the trade market...he has not done much...because he's not paying some ridiculous price just because some other team will.
Nylander will get as much as Lou will give him. And if he wants to pout he will be gone. I highly doubt he will pout though

Thats pretty much what i was saying... I dont think he's necessarily better or worse. Theres a lot going on behind the scenes that we arent involved in. So maybe Lou has some kind of deal already worked out. |

57 points
48 points

40 points (So far) <--- Not worth 6.25 million

Don't look at points, do you? "Great" two-way player my ass. He can skate but he's not killing penalties, throwing hits, blocking shots, winning FOs (practically refuses to play C even though Matthews is hurt) and he's nowhere near as good as you want to believe he is compared to his salary.
And when did I say that?? We don't know how JVR will play when he's Marleaus age. Just like how SJ didn't know how Marleau would play at 39 when he was 28. Maybe that's why SJ didn't give him a 12 year deal at the time? Jesus
Marleau had his one and only 40 goal season at 30/31 and his seasons from 29-35 were some of his best years. But I'm not saying sign JVR until he's 39. I'm saying sign him at 29 instead of signing the 39 year old who makes too much and doesn't perform well enough to justify losing the 29 year old. |
