Can you explain this? This doesn't make sense to me. Flyers and CBJ are both in our division. If we can't "hold off CBJ" then we also can't pass the Flyers and take the third Metro spot. If CBJ is third and the Flyers are behind us in WC2, what's the difference?

i think the idea is if the flyers lose all of their games it's the same as cbj losing all of theirs. we should just want loses within division. something like that.

Sure I get that we want the Flyers to lose in general, but if CBJ is playing the Flyers I don't get why we'd specifically root for CBJ over Philly (aside from just rivalry). To me for the rest of the season I'm much more concerned about teams behind us than teams ahead of us.

Ultimately the Devils are still in control of their own destiny. They've been playing great recently and have already won arguably the two toughest games on the road trip. Just gotta take care of their own business.
