If they are able to draft Quinn Hughes, I am jumping for motha (frank)ing joy. And he's a lefty.
- Pete V
I heard he kicks puppies, beats women and uses tons of PEDs. You guys should let him pass and fall to wherever the Devils are picking. |

oh yeah, him too
but, if they did get him, they seriously need to make some trades - jimbo83
I am serious when I say this, Hughes skates like Brian Leetch. He's a undersized at 5'10, and has the habit of jumping the zone a little too quick to get in on the offense, but I think this kid is going to be a big timer.
I agree about the LHD, but I am in best available player mode with this team right now, and they can make the puzzle pieces fit later with some other moves. |

I just saw some pretty impressive game footage of him the other day. I didn't really have too much confidence in him, but I think I like him a lot more now. |

Somebody will have to settle him down a bit, because a teammate will get the puck in the defensive zone, and he's firing up the ice like a winger. He's ultra-aggressive, which is good, but he's gonna have to dial that down a little.

I think the picks later in the first round and the second rounders, real crapshoot time that I would be more irritated with
I think Hughes and Ty Smith are worthy of drafting regardless of how many lefties they have |

Hughes is going to be good. Rasmus Sandin seems like the Dman that is going to get drafted way ahead of where he is ranked now. |

That's very similar to Werenski, another Michigan product. Werenski is basically a rover, he's all over the ice all the time. If you can skate like the wind it makes it a lot easier to get back to your own end after joining the rush. |

Yeah, no doubt. I haven't paid too much attention to Ty Smith, but I have to start looking at him a bit, because honestly, he might be in the range of Rangers draft pick position.

He's rising up the chart. People are comparing him to Duncan Keith. Lotta chatter about him. |

Just take off the Smith and put Robinson on the back.

Yes, 6'5 power forward who's been better in his draft year. |

I am looking for size up front
I mean, we once made the mistake choosing Jessiman because they were trying to get bigger, but if it comes down to it and it's a virtually tie on the board with a left handed D-man and a forward with size, goddamn it, take the guy with size |

Seems that way. He's a big boy and under a PPG in his draft year. I can't imagine anyone taking him early. |

More than doubled his point production this year. Not a world breaker, but better this year. |

Yeah I'm not knocking him, just explaining to Greek Pete why I think he'll be there in the 20's. My own personal preference is that you steer clear of the gigantic forwards with only "decent" point production, I just feel like they never really pan out to be anything special. Doesn't mean I don't think that they never end up being useful, for the record. |

With the 29th pick in the draft, I wouldn't mind a good player with size that maybe has a bit of Wayne Simmonds in him. It's basically just a function of where you draft these kids, and if you are looking for the home run upside guy with a particular pick or someone who will be a solid player.

Here is a possibility that has not been discussed:
Lets say that we finish with the 9th worst record and the lotto balls do not fall our way.
So we are now drafting 9th ( or worse if we fall a couple of spots ). This might be the time to spring an offer sheet on a team. I am thinking of 23 year old Matt Dumba, a right-handed defenseman. Good , solid player, would be able to play next year on top pairing with Skjei, and still young enough to be part of rebuild. Tender him an offer sheet that Wild wouldn't be able/willing to match.
Even if it cost us our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks----- it should be considered. We would be getting a player that might be more valuable than what we could get at 9th overall. We KNOW that he is an NHL player. We have the cap space and that would certainly jumpstart our rebuild and add a player at a premium position.
Thoughts? |
