See, this is when I call BS on all this "more skill than brawn" all over the lineup
This is a nasty game against a nasty, physical team. CBJ are absolutely drilling guys, and yeah, it'd be nice to have a line that bangs the hell out of you and a d-pair that punishes you in the corners, on the boards and especially in front of the net - AllInForFlyers
The issue with the flyers is too many of their players are minimally skilled.

Yeah Mrazek isn't on his game we've lost this one. Our only shot now is to keep shooting at bobs head so he has to leave the game. - Bigjohnston
He blows...been here almost ten games now and has a sub .900 save %. Not sure Lyon would be any worse! |

It hasn't changed that much. Just gotta want to play that way -- and if you don't have enough skill in your lineup, all you do is get run over by teams that are bigger and meaner than you

Double deflection with a guy on vacation in front of him. Point blank from the slot and a rip off a shot pass.
Yeah not the goalie, terrible coverage |

Heads will explode when we collapse late in the season and miss the playoffs. But many will just say we always were a bubble team and it’s ok. I think the culture with this team needs to change a bit some how |

Bottom line is you need to have minimal dead weight in this league. Let's count the Flyers dead weight players that have seen regular to semi-regular minutes this year:
Lehtera
Weise
Manning
Now let's take a look at borderline dead weight players, or ones that are in over that heads for the minutes they play:
AMac
Filppula
Gudas
That's a lot of bad and questionable players. You argue the "grind" game or whatever. I argue that this team gets pounded by bigger teams because half the game they're running guys over the boards that are a liability or close to it. Put guys in there that knock Lehtera and Manning off the lineup for real, which also decrease the minutes that AMac, Filppula, and Gudas see, and all of a sudden you have a team that is fast and skilled with only a few guys that are not that good.
Look at the Knights. Everyone is fast with hands. They don't have "that guy" but they "come at you in waves" (which I have read, verbatim, more than once on this site). How did they get a team like that? They hand picked guys with wheels that work hard with good hockey sense and 4-5 of them have some offesnive flash. That's a team that wins today.
The Flyers have a lot of those guys in the pipeline both on O and D and that's why I'm excited for the future, even though this team and this year are frustrating as hell. |

I agree, the culture needs to change and we should all live in a dreamland where we think this team with this bottom 6 and this bottom 4 and these goalies is a contender. Therefore, I'd be very excited to see Hextall go after a huge free agent splash and overpay both on term and money for another 28 yr old shiny new toy, because- you know- we're only one piece away |

Not mine they don't deserve a playoff spot I mean they have more home losses than wins. That's unacceptable. |

I don't care who is on the roster. There is no excuse for this horsepoop effort at this time of the year against this team. |

That's six in one hand, half-dozen in the other, though -- neither of us can prove the negative because yeah, they have deadweight, but I am of the belief that if you have that deadweight, what's the difference between the not-skilled-enough skill player and the not-skilled-enough grinder?
At least that grinder gives you a chance to win a 50-50 puck by going TO it and through somebody, instead of the "stick check/sweep check and hope"

To be battling for first in division for a few weeks and then collapse with 15 or so games to go with a double digit point lead on last playoff spot is unacceptable with a team with so many veterans. This is another collapse like last year going on a 10 game winning streak and missing the playoffs. Something needs to change |
