That's six in one hand, half-dozen in the other, though -- neither of us can prove the negative because yeah, they have deadweight, but I am of the belief that if you have that deadweight, what's the difference between the not-skilled-enough skill player and the not-skilled-enough grinder?
At least that grinder gives you a chance to win a 50-50 puck by going TO it and through somebody, instead of the "stick check/sweep check and hope" - AllInForFlyers
Like I said, bottom line is to eliminate deadweight. Period. My mind is telling me grinders are slow. That's what I want to stay away from. Far away.
That being said, a grinder like PEB- no problems there. If that's the kind of player you're talking about then sure. Stick him on the 4th line, no question as I don't consider him dead weight, but he's definitely a 4th liner.
I'm talking deadweight as in a player who is both slow and unskilled. Just- does nothing well. Hope I'm making more sense. |

Heads will explode when we collapse late in the season and miss the playoffs. But many will just say we always were a bubble team and it’s ok. I think the culture with this team needs to change a bit some how - Buzzo
It will not be ok if there’s a collapse...anyone that would suggest that doesn’t understand professional sports..... |

Mrazek must be Chezch for "momentum kill "
Also why did Lehtera flip it in when it looked like he had numbers? |

No, I understand you and hear you -- it's not easy to have every kind of player in your lineup, but see that last play by Lehtera? That soft little flip that only winds up going the other way and winds up in your net?
That's what too much softness in your game leads to. Sometimes you need a few guys who are just north-south and rip that poop in -- and the Flyers have just too many of these "flip it and hope" players in the bottom six

The difference this game is Bob made that save on Patrick and 4 others like it and Mrazek lets the 4th goal in.
Sorry, but you can't win that way. Nothing is going right for these guys lately. |

Agreed, I’ve seen enough to legitimately question whether he can be consistent on a night to night basis. There’s a reason Holland was willing to trade him. |

Sometimes a goalie has to make that tough save...yes they were tough, but he has to stop the (frank)ing puck once in a while....the guy at the other end seems to make tough saves... |

(frank) this team and (frank) these bullpoop breakdowns. - MBFlyerfan
Too many mediocre players. When teams ramp it up, they just don’t have the depth to match it.
Look at the D. Sanheim is gonna be good, but right now he’s a 3rd pair guy. AMac and Gudas are 4/5 guys at best and Manning is no more than #7 on the depth chart on a good team. That leaves 2 guys to fill your top 4.
The forwards have the same problem. 2 4th line centers and right now, in a perfect world, a 19 year old Patrick would be 3rd on the depth chart. On the wing, they have only 3 guys who belong in the top 6 and 2 more, Simmer and Lindblom who can play at top 9 role. The rest are a mix of 4th liners and spare parts.
Then you add average goaltending to the mix and honestly it’s amazing that they are where they are right now. Giroux, Jake, TK, Coots, Ghost and Provorov, as good as they’ve been, just aren’t enough to get this team over the hump.
Thankfully, the system is deep and help is on the way. |
