Yeah thats not correct. If a goalie slides across the crease to make a save and the net comes off, it is certainly not a penalty. It has to be deliberate
- mdw7413

You are incorrect, "mdw". In not the exact, but key words, the rule states that if a goalie knocks the nets off the moorings in any manner, whether deliberate or not, in the last 2 minutes of play, a penalty shot is awarded to the opposition.
Furthermore, the net didn't come off its moorings by itself, as your words here depict it did, with you stating, "If a goalie slides across the crease to make a save, AND THE NET COMES OFF, it is certainly not a penalty".
How do you think the net was dislodged off its moorings in this case? If you were to claim that "Bettman The Penguins Ghost" caused it to, then I would agree with you.

But it was clearly and solely knocked off by Georgiev only, with no player on the Penguins making contact with him.

Saver was a goalie for 40 years, he's much more qualified to talk about it than the rulebook.

Change your word "WAS" to "IS" to be correct here for once.

Georgiev looks like a keeper. Kids looked real good in the few games I've seen him.
- nyrangers9479

I see you read my goalie instructional descriptive post yesterday as to why Georgiev is NHL READY NOW as Hank's backup for the immediate future.

huh?
- mdw7413

I wrote that because on the prior blog, you asked "How has Hags been doing lately?", to which I replied so there, in the event you were mocking him. His acquisition by the Penguins two seasons ago in January was what stabilized their lines, improved their penalty killing and defensive game, leading them to their first of the last two straight Cup wins.

Again with that....wtf does "NHL READY NOW as Hank's backup" mean?

You still haven't answered my question:

Why is it better for Georgiev/Rangers to have him as a backup next year over him getting to play 65 games in AHL?

Yes, bc of you I think he's looked good. Without you I think my eyes might have deceived me into thinking he's looked terrible.

I answered your question in great "detail" right before the end of the prior blog's comments, because I was away when you first asked me late last night, and had no free time to reply until a couple or so hours prior to tonight's game.
So see the prior blog's page 20's last page (at that time) comments for my answer.

Not one member here who is disputing me, and my reasons from an instructional point of view as well. That member would also rather have the Rangers re-sign Pavelec for the same $1.3M, rather than have Georgiev be Hank's backup, since he is signed for two more seasons at just under $800,000 only in contrast.

REALLY?

You think a 800K savings between a veteren back up over Georgiev is worth slowing down his development. The least of NYRs worries is 800k or the "goalie" situation.
Kid has 5 games under his belt. Maybe you should chill out just a weeee bit? Maybe? Ya think?

I think he should start 30 games next season and that’s better than 65 AHL games

Going into tonight's game against the Penguins, the Rangers had 10 new players in their lineup from the last time the two teams played each other on Jan. 14th, with the Penguins winning that game 5-2. But ironically, each team also had 49 points at that time. The Penguins now have 85, while the Rangers have only 71, with the injury bug also contributing in part to their poor play up to the trade deadline.

At least another member convinced you on that opinion of mine yesterday of Georgiev being NHL READY NOW as Hank's backup from here on in to next season and at least a second one thereafter.

First of all, the difference is only slightly over $500,000 saved in using Georgiev, as opposed to re-signing Pavelec at his same $1.3M deal. Georgiev is signed for slightly under $800,000 for each of the following two seasons, before he would become an RFA. He is also better than any free agent goalie who would come in this summer at under $1.5M to be Hank's backup for 30 games minimum.
And again, it's not the savings that mainly makes Georgiev the backup choice to use here. It's the fact that at age 21, he is simply the better goalie by far over Pavelec, and has matured in goal tending experience smarts and skills wise at age 21. He was given his chance as in tonight's win of his over the Penguins, to prove further so.
You never heard of a goalie playing in the NHL at age 21 or even slightly younger? Take the Penguins alone, where Jarry is age 22, while Murray came up at age 21 two seasons ago, and won his first of two straight Cups that season after he hit age 22 in April.
