why would we trade Nylander if we got Tavares, that makes no sense IMO. He's a good winger.

Because Tavares would cost so much money, it would be really hard, if not stupid, to keep Nylander and still have a huge hole on defense.

Matthews at 10-12
Nylander and Marner at 7 or 8.

That's approx. 38 million (almost 50% of your cap) on four offensive players and still lacking a true #1 D.

Nylander would have to go because he's worth a lot (which means you can get quality in return), opens cap space so you can sign the guy you acquire on D and is a surplus if you are lucky enough to sign Tavares.

Marner will never be a C in the NHL. It's not even a conversation. Maybe theyll use Nylander at C, but Babcock said it would be another year before he would be ready if at all

He's done well on the FOs he has taken and his defensive game is stronger than Nylander's. He was drafted with him being a C in the NHL in mind. If Kadri became a C, there's no reason Marner couldn't become a C. Same size with twice as much talent, vision and at the same age, way ahead of the game defensively. Marner at C is definitely an option, don't kid yourself.

Nah, we dont need crap players, I doubt they look at this type of caliber of player, i'd say a trade would be more likely for a 3rd line C then this.

I don't like crap players either but it doesn't mean they wouldn't consider getting a 3rd line C for a year or two.

Likely plan would be to try and sign Tavares, and when he doensn't sign(likely scenario), maybe look at resigning JVR, and a player like StastnyThornton(A bit too old IMO), and look for D help via trades. At least a combo like that. Unlikely they go for a lesser replacement for Bozak(and im not a fan) in Vermette.

They could look at signing Carlsson, but im not a huge fan. I also think they could look at Rick Nash/Kovalchuk as a JVR replacement.

All those guys would cost way too much and are way too old to bring in. Not worth it at all.
