We need hard working guys with Truculence. I heard about a gritty player out of Columbus, he had kind of a rough ride there but could fit in well with the Leafs. Name's David Clarkson.

He gets 25-30 goals a year that no one else gets.

the issue I think is term with JvR... I think he is worth $6M per season.. I just don't think he should get more than a 4 year deal.. he'll be 29 in May...

If Lou can get a 4yr/$20M deal done, then I think you can make it work..

If Bozak wasn't so poop defensively, he'd be a 3rd line center. His scoring ability isn't impressive and he's on the wrong side of 30. But speaking of being on the wrong side of 30, Thornton is 39 in July. And he's missed almost half the season this year. And he's costing the Sharks 8 million dollars. That's the complete opposite of what the Leafs need right now. It was stupid enough to sign Marleau and blow the money required to keep JVR, more money spent on a grey beard is just a waste of cap space.

Tavares, probably a huge long shot, would be worth going after if he tests the market because it allows the Leafs a tremendous amount of flexibility. It allows you to make Kadri the 3rd line center (perfect depth situation) and it allows you to trade Nylander to get a legit #1 D.

But, chances are Tavares is staying in Long Island which means the Leafs need to move either Nylander or Marner to C and find two-top six wingers to replace JVR and Nylander or Marner's spot on the RW.

So basically:

Plan A: Tavares, trade Nylander+ for #1 D (a young one) - Not happening. - why would we trade Nylander if we got Tavares, that makes no sense IMO. He's a good winger.

Plan B: Move Nylander or Marner to C. Find two top-six wingers - More likely. - Marner will never be a C in the NHL. It's not even a conversation. Maybe theyll use Nylander at C, but Babcock said it would be another year before he would be ready if at all

Plan C: Sign a defensive 3rd line C to a 1 year deal (Vermette?) - Very likely. - You think someone like Vermette is likely? Nah, we dont need crap players, I doubt they look at this type of caliber of player, i'd say a trade would be more likely for a 3rd line C then this.

Plan D: Re-sign Bozak for 3 million or less because he's familiar - Hope not.

Plan Z: Old players for too much money.

Likely plan would be to try and sign Tavares, and when he doensn't sign(likely scenario), maybe look at resigning JVR, and a player like Stastny\Thornton(A bit too old IMO), and look for D help via trades. At least a combo like that. Unlikely they go for a lesser replacement for Bozak(and im not a fan) in Vermette.

They could look at signing Carlsson, but im not a huge fan. I also think they could look at Rick Nash/Kovalchuk as a JVR replacement.

No way he does that, he’s giving up way to much money in a deal like that. I wish JVR luck wherever he goes after this season but can’t imagine leafs find a way to keep him.
