I'm not buying James van riemsdyk's cunning goal scoring act for a second. HARRD pass if he asks for anything more than 2 million on a 2 year deal. - TheMussel

would you prefer the opposite... play well and lose?
seriously, we should revisit the comments made earlier today... get rid of JvR... cause he's lazy, and only scores garbage goals..
discuss.

I'd love to keep him, but he may be a luxury the Laffers can't afford. |

Tim Hortons seems to be handing out money to anyone these days. They even had that goon Marchand do a commercial. Surely JVR can work something out with them. Maybe name a doughnut after him. |

Leafs? Honestly 6 x 6 is probably fair for what he brings. He'll probably get more than that in FA. |

Leafs coach Mike Babcock with no real update yet on Andersen other than reiterating it's upper body. Said maybe it's not serious since he played after he first got hurt (in collision with Radulov) but Babcock says he really doesn't know yet. |

I'm not worried if he skated over to the bench during a commercial break and asked to be taken out |

id do 6x8 for JvR for a very simple reason.
6 million in 2019 is not 6 million in 2027, percentage wise (of the salary cap)
either the cap gets raised or a lockout occurs and salaries go down.
either way, you'd be ending up with paying JvR the equivalent of what in 2018 would be $3.5-4.5mil or thereabouts, in his last 2-3 years. (year 2025+)
looking at percentages, 6 mil over a long term is actually not a bad deal for him, given the way salaries will be devalued.
much like Crosby's original 8.5 mil contract would be looked at now, in 2018 (the equivalent would be McDavid's 12.5 mil) |

I know he'd have to agree to a trade, but I don't see another way that they can keep JVR |

Better then Ladd Eriksson Lucic Okoposo and those guys got deals like that a couple years ago, 6x6 is the going rate and not a bad deal for JVR. Might not work with the leafs but that’d be a nice deal for other teams. |

And as mentioned 6 mil today and 6 mil in six years will be a big difference on the cap.
If JVR took 6x6, you should like it. I wouldn't do much more than that though, because as you said, he's only good for offense. But he's fairly consistent, and would be worth it, even at 34. That's not exactly retirement age. |

Yup. 30 goals gets you 6 at least. He's money on the PP. |

I certainly would have no issue with that at all - probably isn't enough, he rarely gets hurt, so he could be effective the entire term...easily. |
