Honestly, if we can sign him for 6 x 6 or something, I think they should. His skill set is not so easy to replace as a lot of people seem to think.
The danger is that he might get offers of 7 x 7 or even higher in FA and that would be too much. If he honestly wants to stay on this team and will sign for less than 7, closer to 6m, its probably worth it. 6m or less would be a pretty good deal.

It does cause possible cap problems in a few years, but I'm sure Lou and co. can figure it out somehow.

Extend Willy, Mathews, and Marner's ELC's until Marleau is off the books. With godfather Lou at the helm, even though that is totally not possible, he'll make it happen.
