Over under on the Jays wins this season - 82.5

Go!

Should use this number for the number of games that Tulo plays this season.

Salaries are going up across the league. That's why a third/fourth liner makes more now than before. Salary calculators also don't count for inflation.

still hard to compare to pre-cap days.

big market teams were running huge payrolls back then.

On their big ticket guys. Sakic was at like 16mil, Fedorov famously (as posted before) 28mil, but the lower tier guys didn't get the money. That's why they upped the league minimum and set the cap in play.

Put a big asterisk on that Fedorov salary, though - it was one year, and only because of ego wars.

I have to agree here. Unless JVR gets signed at 5 million or less per year it won't work in Toronto. I suspect he wants 7/year and he will get it somewhere else to be a fairly 1 dimensional player. (The only reason he doesn't get crapped on by media and fans is because his deal is so good right now)
- Aaron_85

Should offer him $6M X 5 and front-load the contract. Use him for next year, then trade him when it's time to pay Matthews and Marner. The team taking him would have a $6 million cap hit but would pay significantly less in real dollars. Might perk some interest in places like Carolina or New Jersey.

Matthews will get nothing short of 10m+ per year for the next 8 years.

I simply do not see any other alternatives

- Scabeh

I think that's it's the correct price point. The Leafs can round up some large endorsements for him to get him a few more millions to round up his earnings without maxing out the cap. If they can get Marner and Nylander for about 6.25 each X 8, then they'll be able to stay competitive for years.

Well the salaries "start" at 2mil on some of these guys scoring 70 goals during the year. Seems a bit odd when others doing the same are making 5 mil. Does it include bonuses I wonder.

simpler times back then. owners could just cut a check whenever they please.

nowadays the leafs get scotiabank to launder their money.
